Nice looking forward to your comparison!

OT: Is that one of those LG 48" CX's?

Nice been thinking about going that route as well.

Also those ATC's are pretty beefy then...

They are pretty large! The 48CX is a fantastic monitor and display overall, but some folks find it too big. I sit about 6 feet back and find it just right.

They are extra sucky. The ASR review is pretty telling of that. Generally Ocean Way wants to be Augspurger, but ends up sounding like cheap PA. With that said Augspurger wants to be "well set up Augspurger of old", but too often ends up sounding like Ocean Way.

Just joined the forum after reading this thread. I'm looking into some better monitors for mixing my own band recordings and mainly listening to music at my desk. I practice guitar and bass as well at my desk and usually DI out of an amp into an RME Babyface.

After reading through the thread I'm undecided between just going with Yamaha HS8, Adam A7x, KRK V6/V8 or Dynaudio BM6a monitors. The Dynaudio is around where I'd have to cap the budget.

I'm not in a huge room, and these would be sitting on a big desk. I listen to mainly rock, metal, jazz fusion, hip hop.

    Thanks for the reminder!

I want to know, too...listening to the ATC SCM12 Pro's & loving that sound.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the ATCs, though they do have their drawbacks. The soundstage depth and image width when listening nearfield is definitely not as good as that of the Legacy speakers, which has an incredibly holographic midrange, so I ultimately chose to stick with the Legacies for my nearfield setup. The ATC's are a really good midfield solution and I currently have them in my home office, where they are working quite well. I haven't had sufficient time with them due to work being crazy to write up any detailed impressions, but for now I'm keeping both.

The ATCs will be vying against Pure Audio Project Trio 15's for a permanent spot here, and once I have made up my mind I'll sell the others.

Reading your post makes me realize I've always been willing to trade the nth degree of holographic imaging for superior tonality & dynamics. I felt that way when I had a big/bad system in the living room--and I feel it even more now with my constrained-space desktop system.

I've had speakers here that image better than the ATCs, most notably the Aerial Acoustics 5Bs (since sold). But IMS the back of speakers are ~12" from the front wall/picture window & I'm ~3 ft. from the front of them during listening sessions. Given these circumstances, even epic imaging capability mostly goes unnoticed here.

While my ATCs may be average for imaging, they're off the chart for mid- and upper-bass power & dynamics as well as truthful but not overbearing treble. They are revealing, dynamic, and yet never push into edgy or unbearable. True to their monitor heritage, these speakers give me everything in the recording--very honest, but not overbearing at all.

Best of all, when I crank them, the volume ramps up, and with it, every good thing these speakers can do ramps up very smoothly in proportion. No surprises, no distortion--just bigger sound (there is a sub crossed over below 80 Hz, the JL Audio e110, but it comes in below the range I'm speaking of). This system isn't large, but can sound huge when I ask it to.

I've really only heard this kind of power & dynamic capability from multi-driver floorstanders in the past.

I'd love to hear the ATCs you have, but they're just too big for my desktop.

This is my current setup. Rogers LS3/5a for nearfield listening.

Forgive the mess on the right side. Just finished setting it up. Very happy with how it sounded so far.

I used to use 3 different amps.
A prototype from Goly.dk (which is excellent for Audeze LCD4), a Rupert Neve Headphone amp, and a Burson Fun Vivid V6.

    It's a custom 40step passive monitor controller.

Got a chance to audition both Rokit 5 and V4S4.
All impressions are far from ideal... big room/ shop with no treatment, most of them are in quiet environment/placed on desk/shelf.

I like the Rokits over most low end monitor, better than 8020 genelecs, they are not perfect but the price is right. Great slam but not so texture low, has a little 3d sound feeling.

Focal alpha 65s are ok - helfy and not so muddy low/ sound feels like coming out out laptop that sits between 2 speakers.. . Idk what the hell im trying to say but the rest is nothing to ride home. I think they are a bit overpriced esp. in my country.

V4S4 - very good.. sound signature are quite different from Rokits. Tangible/textured bass while Rokits feel a bit boosted in low/ delicated, resolved and soft mid like pslam mentioned. Im actually think V6S4 are 2 steps above Rokit and will be happy to get them if I had a good deal.. sadly this is not the case in my country. Maybe I should get a cheap used passive nearfield setup? Any thought on this?

Airpulse a100 - Forward vocal, may be ikay for 00s female single but the rest is nope town.

Klipse the sixs, rm51 - Not worth the price.

The last two auditioned via bluetooth connection
but thats enough to get the picture, I think.

I should mention Im coming from the headphone side and know/hear nothing about speakers

Forgot Yamaha HS5 : not quite engaging, no slams and quite 2d, string instruments are stand out and I kinda like them, dry as nun's cunt base on pslam's reply, but in a good way.

Look forward to hear HS8s as safe/budget pick
