Can we give some love to moOde?

I know not everyone uses it, but all that guy does is sit around and compile some code for the Pi for all us hi-fi nerds.

PS - "that guy" has a name - Tim Curtis

I would honestly go with "Limp Dick" as the bad award, but only if the main award was called the "Golden Boner".

Slightly off topic, but I loathe the idea of giving wireless earbuds an award. Call me prejudiced or snobby but I read sbaf to find good quality sound, not stuff with no wires. Hence E, V and L but not C - convenience.
Perhaps y'all don't feel the same way.

Why can't something be good within its category?

I've been using my airpods pro since it came out and still love it as a everyday carry with decent ANC and sound quality for the price. I think it deserves some merit if it survives many gear purges from a gear cycler like me. Not sure why there's anything wrong with nominating wireless products if it does fit into one (or more) of those 3 categories?

I was kind of tempted to agree with this - I definitely have a snobby side that doesn't like the idea of wireless earbuds getting any kind of award from SBAF...but after thinking it over a bit, why not give something an award if it performs excellently within its given niche? Just as we give out value awards for items that perform very well at their price point, why not give out an award to a wireless earbud that performs exceptionally well given their design limitations?

Hate to break it to y’all but whether or not SBAF gives an award to the already hugely popular AirPod pro doesn’t make a damn bit of difference. No one will give a shit either way.

It is nice to know that they sound decent in case a friend wanted a recommendation but that’s about it.

Haven't spent much time with audio lately, but I did try a couple new things this year:

    Bifrost 2 - EV
The dac that made me not regret selling my Yggdrasil. About the best praise I can think of.

    Campfire Audio Ara - E
I may have slightly preferred my Andros, but I've never heard such clarity from an IEM until these. I still think about them sometimes which shows they left an impression on me I can't shake. Wouldn't be surprised if I try them again with a better paired source.

Soekris deserves a spot IMO, perhaps the 2x41 series in V but not that many here have heard them yet. Solid praise from purr1n though.
Holo Audio Spring 2 for E/L. Auditioning the May made atomicbob purchase one IIRC so that's worth something... I absolutely adored mine and only downgraded because I'm a really cheap bastard when it comes down to it.

    Headphones:

Senn HD580/HD600/650/6XX V/E/L I'm listening to HD580's near every day these past weeks/months. And they're not quite unobtainium :)

Lol, I knew id get a bunch of dislikes for this, but I have to speak my mind.
I'd hate for wireless stuff to get an award because sbaf in my opinion shouldn't give a shit about that category. Wireless is a design choice which audiophiles avoid. Frankly, with otg rigs it matters less, because tiny dongles and possibly compressed streamed audio already sound crap. Not to mention the noisy environments in which they are worn. It is because of these factors, not despite them that wireless buds cannot be appraised in the usual way. They can't receive an E, because the number of caveats is too many. They dont receive a V because better sound quality is available wired. They will certainly never receive an L because wireless technology is developing rapidly and they will soon be obsolete. Not to mention unreplaceable batteries.

In my view, giving AAP an award alongside serious, expensive and beautiful-sounding equipment detracts from the awards. It would be an insult to the other equipment receiving the awards. Visitors, newbies and randos will think "Oh, so the AAP sound good after all. Hmm, it seems that this megabuck stuff is really just a lifestyle choice / ORFAS."
What would the award even look like?!
"The AAP receive an award for... Um... being wireless and convenient yet still sounding ok. I mean they sound great, well... for a wireless bud with at least 7 hrs battery life, that has good ANC, no band or other dangly bits, etc."
How many extra qualifications are necessary to establish the "category" within which it gets the award? The facts is that you buy it for its features. Not the sound.

Im not saying they are bad. Im saying this is not the site to give them an award because we are not tech bloggers. We are audiophiles.

And audiophiles are people who have lives outside of great sound too. I don't give a shit about convenience myself but if people want to say that there are items under a certain lifestyle category that aren't completely trash then who cares? Focus on the items lauded for Excellence and ignore everything else. f**k Value and f**k Longevity if that's what works for you. If there are people who get something under a wireless category and bitch about how it doesn't sound as good as cheaper wired variants then that's their fault for failing reading comprehension. You've raised a valid opinion, no need to belabour it.

It's not like the awards here are given as a sign of prestige in the first place, they will not vault a product into being a commercial success. They are half in jest, a quarter serious, with a healthy dose of stupidity thrown in.

In that case there should be no award for any IEM, because they are hearing aids, and a piss poor value overall compared to even a cheap pair of headphones. The Airpod Pro sound better than numerous IEM's in the $500-$1000 range that I know of, lol. Your reasoning is flawed because you think you are an audiophile, more like audiophool.

I have to disagree with you mate, i am here to read, learn, find and experience the best audio gear, that suits my budget, for a giving purpose, whatever it may be. I believe wired/wireless are just characteristics that count, in the end of all, for what my experience the gear is.

If my lifestyle makes having wires difficult should i stick to my guns and make, knowingly and stubbornly, my life harder?! f**k no, i want to have it as best as i can and fortunately here i have a great community to help me find what i need to fill my purposes.

Decided to cut this to a few words to be less thread-destructive (post grew as quote added)...

Expensive is not a requirement. Does wireless really disqualify? Is the technology intrinsically incapable? And does that rule out all travel stuff including the more, ahem, expensive things?
    Edit: Added:
OK, JK47 hit that one on the head :)

Wish I could do clever stuff with photoshop. But seriously...
Nail hit on head. And... (enough quotes already) What @Lyander Said.

Not that we can't/don't do beautiful/expensive, but we can rely on lots of other sites to cater for exclusive. They can look after the Moons and the A-lists. We do schlongs. With equal pride, but different perspectives.

yeah that’s true. But actually I bet the opinions of SBAF have more influence in the audiophile headphone world than we realize. This place is so full of real good content and no BS impressions I bet there are a lot of lurkers who make stupid posts on head-fi but make buying decisions based heavily on SBAF opinions.

So actually I change my mind, it would be cool to nominate the air pods pro If they are in fact tuned nicely compared to the competition because a lot of people esp newcomers to audiophilia want blue tooth earphones but more so because it would be a cool sign of open mindedness at SBAF. That we really only care about SQ and to a slightly lesser extent value.

My wife says I'm too irresponsible to own something that small and expensive (see my profile post about running the OG AirPods/buds whatever through the clothes washer. Five times....)

Not a hardware suggestion but a software one...

The Blue Note AAA vinyl re-issue series (Tone Poet, 80th, and now Classic) have given me a ton of enjoyment over the last year. BN's success has now occasioned a similar series reissuing Impulse and Verve titles. The jackets, on the whole, look amazing, and the sound quality is often superb.

    possibly golden worthy;
    • motu ultralite mk4/avb with updated ES hardware
    • motu m2/m4 for V
    • Adorama - offering amazing deals this year with focal clear pro, hifiman he-6se and now collab work with hifiman? innovation on the etailer side is cool and should be commmended.
    • 177x Go - has it's subjective issues but for closed, still a great V
    • Beyerdynamic Tygr 300R - seriously. a dt990 with proper dampening. Great V candidate.

    awful, whatever the designation ends up being;
    • Philips shp9600 - complete money grab, offensive bass bleed. consumers taken advantage of based on a prior win.
    • LCD-1 - over hyped beyond belief, does not live up to price point in any way shape or form. well known manufacturer meets HF and too many people wasting money.
    • Beyerdynamic T1 g3? I personally haven't heard it but known ears here have and they seem to match measurements. Innovation based on trendy marketing instead of actual R&D.
