I used moOde with a local USB SSD for quite a while as my stand-alone work source. A brief search indicates that it is possible to mount a CIFS/SMB share from moOde, but it may require some fiddling. It's also possible to have moOde see a DLNA server, if your network drive offers that.

thanks, I think the Asus router app uses smb for the shared drive, I figure if Win 10 can see it any decent Linux variant should, but ya never know. thanks for the info.

Do you use any special hat for USB or do you use another type of hat for output? Do you use a remote app for headless operation or have it hard wired to mouse and monitor?

Mconnect sees Volumio now. Not sure why it didn’t before.

yes these are both enabled. Thank you!

I tried sharing my PC (Windows 10) internal HDD via SMB over my network to a base pi4 (running moOde 7.0.1), but it seems that I'm not doing it properly, as it should be appearing automatically in the list of the server setup screen once you hit the "SCAN" button.

Once there, you enter the same ID/password as setup for your NAS and it will be accessible through the moOde interface.

There isn't a lot of current info on the moOde forums for the NAS setup/sharing process, and it seems that most of the issues have come down to system/network configurations, so YMMV. I faffed around for about an hour before giving up and going back to foobar2000 and UPnP streaming.

I have, however, managed to use the Pi in another way, with an external HDD plugged into it's USB3.0 ports and accessed through File Explorer on my PC.
The moOde OS will have it's own IP address on your network and should be able to be used in a similar fashion to a NAS.

I am currently using the onboard USB2.0 from the base Pi4 to my RME ADI-2 DAC while waiting for my Pi2AES and Gungnir Multibit to arrive. Apparently they had also made quite a few changes to the Pi4 in regards to the seperation of the USB/ethernet channels.

In all honesty, I would be quite content with a base Pi4 w/external HDD -> USB out to DAC. The built-in bitperfect sample test in the ADI-2 passed without a problem from 16 bit to 32 bit, so I don't see any reason to not use it in this configuration.

As for headless operation, you can either use a phone/tablet/laptop externally, as the moOde player is accessed through a webpage UI only (IME best accessed through the player's IP address). I can't speak for any other players as I have only been using moOde.

The scan function didn't work well for me, so I had to manually input some settings. I currently have one of my folders on my internal SSD (using my login that's tied to my Microsoft account) shared out, and after the manual settings, moode was finally able to mount it. I had to change my mount flags to this:

    Code:
    vers=3.0,ro,dir_mode=0777,file_mode=0777

I have similar experience. Temperature of Pi board using Digione or Pi2AES HAT with RopieeXL OR DietPi as OS gets around 65 but I guess as long as we are below 70 it should be Ok

The processor in the Pi will throttle when it approaches 85C so you’re still a ways off that but if you’re worried you can try some of the suggestions here.

Linux has an optional SMB stack. I just can't recall if moOde comes with it installed and ready to go. In my experience with it on Ubuntu Server, it can be slightly fiddly.

I used Pi2AES, coax or AES to DAC, and a PiTouch 7" screen for local play control, reason being that work has security restrictions that would not allow me to put the item on its networks. When setting it up at home, I used whatever screen was convenient to control play, such as my laptop or my phone.

I confirmed moOde does come with SMB/Samba up and running. Make sure hard drive isn't formatted to NTFS and it should be good to go.

After an afternoon unplugging and rearranging all of my gear, my Pi running Volumio no longer connects to my wireless network, isn't visible via network scanning app, and isn't available at any of the default or previous IPs. My PI has disappeared from the network before, but was always fixed by powering off and then on again. Not this time. Multiple restarts and nothing has changed. Is there anything else I should try before I wipe my SD card and reinstall the OS?

That’s exactly what I would do. It is usually a Volumio problem (I hate that f-ing program).

Yeah it sucks. Maybe I'll try a new one. All I care about is:

    1. Can play via USB attached storage to the Pi
    2. Can be streamed to via AirPlay
    3. UI doesn't suck too badly

    Maybe Moode?

Yeah, MoOde does also have those capabilities assuming you like the UI. :) Or keep trying other options until you find one that you like. I stopped at MoOde because I was happy enough with it.

Allo's version of DietPi. Comes preinstalled with most audio services (that can be individually turned on and off) and a minimal web interface

I just built my second Pi2AES for my speakers and setting up Volumio in a card worked fine. However, I got MoOde setup online at moOde.local with WiFi snd a unique upnp name and Airplay name. It keeps this info after unplugging Ethernet so I know it’s working and setup right. But mconnect doesn’t see it. I tried wiping the card and re flashing it with the moOde os and then setting up WiFi and the names agsin but mconnect still won’t see it.

any ideas? It sees my other moOde card just fine which was setup in the same way.

It definitely works with the HifiBerry Digi+ Pro. I think the Pi2AES is compatible with that driver, if the specific Pi2AES driver isn’t available.

Yeah, that's the driver I use in Volumio and MoOde.

I haven’t looked at the release version of 7 yet, sorry. I know they moved to a newer version of upnp that supported openhome and which showed two render targets or something (didn’t really pay attention though as I have a bunch of unchecked in code running and don’t know when I’ll have time to reconcile it with the master branch) and that might be causing problems. You might need to break down and check out their forums to see if anyone else had run into this which seems likely.
