https://www.secondskinaudio.com/accessories/sample-pack. KISS mod even mentioned in the reviews. ;)

Edit: This is probably better as it just has the Damplifier Pro: https://www.secondskinaudio.com/sound-deadening/damplifier-pro-small-project.

EU gang - where do you end up getting Dynamite extreme/damplifier pro and the Creatology foam from? I don't see any convenient trial packs or so available on our side of the world..

In north Texas, I walked into the auto department at Best Buy and offered to buy a small sheet. They gave me a scrap piece big enough to do 2 mods with for free.

So I can't describe how awesome I think this mod is! It literally made me like my HD650 so much, that I don't care anymore for any other mid-fi gear (in fact I don't even care for the summit-fi stuff, due to the often irregular FR either). Great stuff, thanks Marv for the instructions :)

Might as well describe how I managed to mod mine as I didn't use dynamat. In Spain I can only buy it in big sheets for around 49€ a piece. Keeping that in mind I searched for alternative materials and found some spare replacement rubber feet. It's quite thick (1cm) and somewhat heavy for what it is. Maybe dynamat is better, but I can attest to everyone else's findings here (better bass, focus and overall "livelier" sound). Here is what I did and my findings along the way:

    1) Removed rear foam (2 pieces per driver in my case). Realized it sounded much less damped, but the bass was way overblown (a good 3-5db at 100-200Hz) and it started to be a bit sibilant at times. Overall not bueno, albeit the positives were there in the form of a livelier, less boring sound signature. Better transients for sure.

    2) Put one of the foam discs back into place (huge pain to do btw), which left it at a good middle-ground. I highly recommend doing this to anyone who is afraid of doing the rest of the non-removable mods. Heck I even think Sennheiser should ship the HD650 this way. It's just one foam piece less they have to use for a significantly faster transient response. I kept mine this way for a solid month or two and was very happy.

    3) Said to heck with this wolly Sennheiser sound and cut the spider-cage out, applied my dynamat replacement (1cm thick rubber feet meant for furniture) and left only one foam piece in there. I didn't expect much (silly me), but the bass tightened up massively. I noticed it from the second I plugged them in. What an improvement! The wolly sound is gone and now I have a supercharged HD650++.

Reminded me that I never showed my mod:
    photo_2021-01-05_15-42-52.jpg

That's dynamat plus a 1" sorbothane washer double-taped over the backside of the driver assembly (spider removed), thick fibrous felt inside with a hole sized to tune the bass.

I haven't done this mod in awhile, but any butyl sound deadening stuff should work, right?

BTW and I don't know how I didn't think of this before, but Dynamat has a million alternatives and copy cats of sorts from a ton of other brands. Some stuff even appears to be better than Dynamat in terms of raw sound dampening properties. In Spain I found this from a local retailer for 7€ plus shipping, for two 30x30cm squares: https://www.solocaraudio.com/insonorizacion/7278-standartplast-black-silver-speaker-kit.html

Works very well on my HD650KISS, maybe a bit better than what I used before (some random rubber feet lol). Oh it's also self adhesive, so that's cool.

Indeed, there are a lot of alternatives. A common one on this forum is Damplifier (Pro), which is even considered to be better than Dynamat.
I looked around here in the Netherlands for options but it seems that I ran into options that were of lower damping properties than Dynamat xtreme.. For example Noico and KKmoon.
Im not sure what the damping properties are for the one you posted a link of, but if it works for you thats great! :)

The washer?, It's a 1" sorbothane washer, you can find them @ Amazon.

No I mean the material I’ve outlined with red, that you placed on the stock oval mesh.

That's stock, I own the 'silver mesh' version, there are also 'black mesh' versions which are older, I believe. There's a few posts here and elsewhere trying to find differences between the two.

I have been doing research and turns out the material called STP Aero Gold is about as effective as Dynamat Xtreme or Damplifier Pro. STP even has a more powerful solution called "Aero Bomb" which is around 4.5mm thick. In the end I ended up putting Aero Gold in mine and works very well.

I got a decent bunch of damplifier to mod my 6xx, have enough left over to mod 3-4 more headphones. Anyone in the EU having a hard time finding some, let me know!

Got the mod done, less than a week after I got my 6XX.
Decided I wanted a bit more bass, so instead of using 1 out of 2 foam pieces at the back and folding into a semi-circle, I cut out a thin strip of foam from the rectangle foam block that comes in the box and put it over the driver. Mainly to make sure nothing falls in the hole on the driver while giving me the bass I wanted.

Works well, and I realized that with some imagination the mod looks like a tie fighter with an x-wing behind it so that's added points :)
