SBAF has a lot of smart people, who know a lot of smart people, so I'm posting this here for assistance.

I'm a type 1 (autoimmune) diabetic. This means my immune system attacks the cells in my pancreas that make insulin, so I'm dependent on insulin to stay alive like millions of others around the world.

I'm looking for people who may know the following:
    • EE's with knowledge of medical devices, embedded systems and BLE ( Bluetooth Low Energy)
    • Organizers in the DefCon/hacking community so we can submit a potential project.

The diabetes community has made heroic efforts to reverse engineer proprietary bluetooth communication algorithms to enable the use of open source software as an artificial pancreas. You can read about these efforts here:

There is an insulin pump on the market today, that supports BLE and could work with an every day cell phone, without any custom devices. In fact, it's controlled by a locked down Android device. I am looking for folks willing to help get this into a hackathon for some attention.

If you know talented android developers, hardware/bluetooth/RF engineers or others who are willing to help hack for good, please let me know! We have a discord where a group of volunteers are actively reverse engineering today, and we need help.

Is there a donation link for those of us who may be too stupid to contribute any other way?

Update: We've made some good progress, recreating core elements of the app and getting actual pairing and control of a pump from a generic device.

We are now at the point where we are reverse engineering C/C++ binaries that handle security and encryption. If anyone is interested in this, or knows people experienced in decompiling/reverse engineering C/C++ libraries please PM me.

Thanks for offering! The best place you can support these efforts is here, by supporting Tidepool: Donate to Tidepool (salsalabs.org)

Our efforts are 100% volunteer driven, so we aren't asking for donations, just human capital.
