Would a 5v 3amp fuse (not sure if there is such a thing) placed in the PS line to the expansion header alleviate the concern of overload and harm to the board?

The protection circuit provides over-voltage including static discharge. If you connect directly you are probably ok, but for obvious reasons I can't sanction this method.

Has anyone figured out how to use AES with the 7" screen case without having the cable pop out the side of the screen. Bought a right-angle xlr plug to try, but turns out the BNC jack pokes out too far and it doesn't matter which of the permitted angles the plug lets me use as they all hit the BNC. Used a Neutrik NC3FRX plug. Maybe only solution is to unsolder the BNC jack.

Can you take some photos so I can see what is happening? I'm trying to visualize what is interfering and I can't!

    Hi Michael.

Thanks for reaching out. First off, I see this as no fault of the unit since it was not originally designed to be used with the pi screen. This is more a personal issue of not wanting to have cables show on the side of the screen. :)

So the plug only allows a few positions (only 2 of which could be useable on the pi case.

Preferred method (straight back at 90 degrees):

    Second method (45 degrees down):

As you can see, the xlr barrel hits the BNC connector before being able to insert the xlr plug fully. It almost works if having it 45 degrees upward but the xlr plug doesn't allow that angle.

I found the following in case it might be of interest. I might give it a shot if I can find one in Canada.

Not currently in stock, so a bit of a wait - but:

    https://www.avshop.ca/wire-amp-cabl...e-techniques-low-profile-male-3-pin-xlr-black

Their shipping is a bit pricey, but they have plenty of other goodies you could order to make it worth your while.

Edit: oops, dummy, linked the male. Same price on the female, but better - it's in stock:

discussed this in another thread with someone who did this and after a few months their LPS died and took the PI2AES board with it. needless to say as a result I won't be pursuing this and may just try acquiring an LPS that I can use through the standard connection on the PI2AES.

Good find on the other right angle connector. I'm also currently using a right angle Neutrik for AES, but with a regular case (not screen). I stand my case on end like this to optimize cooling.

None of the available angles on the Neutrik connector are ideal. I have it blocking the ethernet and optical ports, which I normally don't use. There is just enough clearance for the USB. The connector from Cable Techniques should work better.

It's a shame the Neutrik connector isn't more flexible in the routing options.

FWIW, I have a couple Pi2AES... one powered by the switcher and the other is powered from an LPS that I had for powering an mCTH. I couldn't tell the difference between the two on my downstream chains.

Totally off topic, but has Volumio stopped supporting Qobuz? It hasn't come up for me in a few days.

Works fine for me, and I haven't seen any interruptions. Does Volumio show you as logged into a Virtuoso account (on the left side)? Also make sure Qobuz is enabled at Settings > Sources > Sources Visibility

I had to log out and log in to my Volumio account to get Qobuz to show up the other day.

@Michael Kelly , sorry if I missed this and search didn't help; can the PI2AES be safely powered by the RPI power connector using a typical 5V 3A PS (I assume the W2 jumper would need to be in place)? or does this create an issue where the PI2AES doesn't power up first which is required for the RPI to see it?

Not to speak for Michael but maybe you could read the statement on the Pi2 Design main page or Pi2AES page.
IMPORTANT NOTE - All units require a minimum of 24V DC Input, up to the maximum of 48V. Some units may be marked +12V to +48V. Please contact us with any questions regarding this change.

The built-in protection circuit prevents voltage from the raspberry pi going into the PI2AES.
So no, you cannot power the PI2AES from the raspberry pi power supply.

I had previously written that the problem i had with my hard drive not being recognized by the pi3 attached to the pi2aes was due to the fact the pi3 would not recognize usb3 devices. I purchase the pl4 thinking that this would solve the problem. This did not work as well. I had read somewhere that volumio does not like exfat. I had usb drive formatted in exfat and volumio did not recognize it. I reformatted in ntfs and loaded some music on it and this worked. This system is so odd. Now volumio play 16 bit, 24-96 but not 24-192. I give up. I will just stick to those files it plays. But the pi2aes does sound very good and is great value for the money.

This is one of those weird (human) memory things: Did the Pi2AES ever "release" the DAC when it stops playing? Currently, using AES connections from Ropieee Pi2AES, two different systems, the DACs (Yggdrasil and Holo Spring 2) will show the last sample rate even after the Pi2AES has stopped playing.

That is likely because the wm8804 driver does not stop the output stream when there is no input data. the clock is free running so it continues to oitput a clocked stream with no data. It just seems to be a quirk of the chip itself.
