Yes, HD800 is discontinued and AFAIK has been since the release of the HD800S.

f**k this for $1,100. The rise is in the worse area for me too.

All the talk from Drop about "altered acoustic impedance in the transducer's dampening material to smooth the FR from 2.5k to 8k" and they apparently neglected to mention that it raises the FR in that region as well while dipping 1.5khz by 2.5dB. Funny how that works.

GRAS rig measurements (earlier graph was B&K). This one looks even worse, if anything the 2.5-8khz region is peakier.

Frankly, and mind y'all I could just have irreparably effed hearing, I seem to find jagged/rough treble more irritating than elevated but smooth treble sometimes (the HD800S was never horrifically unlistenable, though the OG certainly had bad glare). The upper mid dip is a guilty pleasure of mine (never mind I have ER2XRs and HD600s besides the HP-3) and with the reworked driver I'm genuinely curious how that might affect headstaging and imaging.

But yeah this is definitely not what I think most here had in mind when they mentioned "fixing" the FR. Not my thing but waiting on opinions from upper management.

You're not looking at this right. What needs to be appreciated here is that this is a masterpiece of subterfuge: listeners will be so exhausted by climbing that cliff up to the upper-mid massif, they'll have no energy left to consider the daunting 6k peak. Genius!

I would've been more impressed if they dumped all the R&D into new materials for the silver screens and pads with unchanged or OG HD800 drivers. Leave it to huge brands to dump all of their effort into 'improving' the driver without giving a shit about acoustic design.

edit - and after 'THREE YEARS' of research? Why couldn't they have spent that time reading HD800 modding threads?

I wish they had just found a new source for the SBAF rug liner, and maybe cheaper OEM earpads.

My favorite part that I was going to let other people poke fun of was the part that goes something like....

Rough paraphrase - "Order now and guarantee you'll have a pair before 2022 because we are only making 3,000 in 2021"

"Shipping November 2021"..... I can wait another 2 months yo - you ain't making my wallet scared with another 2 months.

The real question is whether Jude uses the Benchmark HP4 for listening or measuring.

I am always tempted to ask Will and Senn engineers this question

"What do you hear with HD800 OG and HD800S respectively, and what do you think strengths and weaknesses for each?" (also want to ask what are "standard" rigs they think to drive them)

Problems never automatically disappear unless they are well identified. I often find huge gaps in perceiving HD800S across different forums -- sometimes dichotomized as sbaf vs non-sbaf. Maybe we're just "obsolete" as per JA lol.

So the standard HD800S goes for about $1400 regular price now.

The Drop version is $300 less but has no balanced cable, no cleaning cloth, no USB drive with individual measurement.. ugh

I was very disappointed by the frequency graph.
It looks worse than the HD800S with a brighter response.

Can someone do an overlay of the HD8XX gras graphs and the Elex Gras graphs. I'm curious why Drop doesn't show their fancy Jude graphs in comparison to their other products since they are using it as a selling feature.

Oh Sennheiser I weep for thee :(

My favourite headphone brand; reduced to whoring remaining HD800S stock on Drop. How far your crown jewel from 2009 has fallen.

No balanced cable, cheaper packaging, this isn't even really a deal. Few db extra bass yay

While DaBianMan and Audeze sell badly built and super heavy stuff respectively at used compact car prices.

How did it come to this?

2025 - DaBianMan release HE-HD800S1000 for $7999. (patents expire yo!)
