Thank you but I don’t know what that means or how to do that. I need the “for complete f'ing morons” version when it comes to internet tech

If you can connect the Moode box via ethernet cable to a network switch, that might be the easiest way.
If you can, the Moode box will obtain an IP address automatically from your router via DHCP. At which point you might be able to connect to it using http://moode or http://moode.local and if neither of those ways work, then you'll have to use Fing or some other method to determine what IP address was assigned to the box.

I still don’t understand that so sorry. But I already tried Fing and literally tried every IP address listed that wasn’t labeled as something else and none of them would load. All of them timed out.

Yes, and this says the default values are:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: password
    :eek::eek::eek: (serious security hole)

I'm not familiar with Xfinity routers, but there should be a screen that shows connected devices and their IP addresses (assuming that at this point your Moode is connected to the router by Ethernet cable). If you need to look at a user guide for the router, they can be found here: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/broadband-gateways-userguides?

If you find the list of connected devices and Moode isn't there, then something is wrong on the Moode side and it isn't connecting to the router.

thank you for that! I tried our account username and password and it did not work. Apparently for some reason they are not the same. This is an example of why I can’t wrap my head around this kind of IT stuff. It’s manufactured complexity. My brain won’t engage with it.

anyways it appears to only be seeing my headphone Pi2AES. The “moode” you see in this list is the same IP as my headphone Pi2AES.

so wtf do I do now? Geeeeezus I hate this device when it doesn’t work (no fault of @Michael Kelly )

Give DietPi+Allo gui a try, seriously UPnP is already fiddly af, and all the stuff running in the background on Moode only makes it worse. If you only use UPnP flash DIetPi, disable unneeded services in their webUI and be done with it.
    https://dietpi.com/
Go to Downloads, select RPI and instead of downloading the regular image (which works fine as well but requires manual setup) select the Allo gui one.

thank you but I’ve barely been able to figure out this system. I can’t try to fugue out a whole new way to do this. I bought a Samsung S10e phone (which is a POS and makes me seriously love Apple) just to use bubbleupnp

Have you tried disconnecting the original pi and then go through the setup again?

@rhythmdevils I might be able to help via Zoom. However, I know you might be mobile limited. LMK if we need to go there.

    1) I don’t think your Pi is actually booting, try a new microsd card. I had one that’d very occasionally result in the pi flashing an error code because it couldn’t load a kernel.

    2) if it still doesn’t work try booting without the hat (you’ll need a regular 5v psu of some kind, I’ve used a regular iPhone one in a pinch but it’s less voltage than the Pi likes, an iPad one works great).

    3) if it boots without the hat then try the other psu with the new hat.

    4) if it doesn’t boot without the hat try the new hat on your other Pi.

    5) if that works then the Pi itself may be bad, but check this thread on boot issues in general:

    https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=58151

    6) an hdmi cable and monitor/tv would probably be useful for troubleshooting though I’ve never tried it.

We’re also chatting on this in PM and I suggested a reboot and to check the Ethernet lights. To make sure they light up and start blinking after a bit. For whatever reason I’ve found this to be sometimes inconsistent for me and a good indicator if it’s working or not. Since I’m using both Volumio and Moode it’s hard to be sure if the both OS’s or the hardware is being quirky.

Either way I’m local and will take a look if that doesn’t work.

With a newly flashed OS, mConnect will not work until you can get in and configure the WiFi so this is expected.

Just throwing this out there because it happened to me last week: the SD card may have gone bye-bye so it's not even booting.

Sometimes the router wont get a right ip adress, rebooting or resetting the router could help. I had that two times. The first time i would have known that sooner. It was a long night:(

I am feeling the love right now! Thank you for all the help! I’m sorry I’m such an IT dotard.

first an update I did some troubleshooting and things have gotten weirder.

I reflashed the sd card and checked my router’s devices list. This time the speaker Pi2AES showed up but the headphones Pi2AES did not. I could tell because the IP address was different. And when I logged into that IP address it was not named “moode headphones” like my headphones Pi2AES is. It was labeled simply moode. So I renamed both the host name and the browser name because I don’t know what the difference is. To “moode speakers”. And I setup the WiFi. Then restarted the Pi2AES as it asks you to.

it still is not showing up on mconnect or bubbleupnp.

and I don’t understand why my router list of connected devices didn’t show both Pi2AES.

    so to do list:

    • Use a different SD card.
    • Turn off the headphones Pi2AES while configuring the speakers Pi2AES
    • Check the lights by the Ethernet port.
    • Booting up the RPI alone is over my head unfortunately.
One thing I notice is there is a red light on inside the speakers Pi2AES. I covered all the normal LEDs with electrical tape and I don’t remember there being red LEDs in the Pi2AES. I remember green and yellow or something. Does a red light mean anything?

I don't envy @Michael Kelly contemplating the service calls he might get for the Mercury box. There are so many unexpected conditions to handle.

This is good news, you’re making progress. The red light doesn’t mean anything bad.

Now you need to turn on UPnP for MoOde and configure the output device.

Under the M menu, click Configure->Audio
    1. Set the I2S Audio Device to HiFiBerry Digi+ Pro and hit SET
    2. (optional) if you don't want Moode adjusting the volume, MPD settings is a little further down, select EDIT, set the Volume mixer to Fixed and hit SAVE at the top. Then go back for the remaining settings
    3. (optional) Scroll down to the Airplay renderer, turn it on and hit SET
    4. Scroll a little further down to UPnP/DLNA, turn UPnP Client for MPD on and hit SET
I believe that should cover everything beyond activating WiFi which I think you already did.

There is an LED that shows yellow or red depending whether the current data rate is 48 or 44.1kHz (or 2x/4x multiple). Red is normal after power up.
