    Which USB - Gen 5 or Unison? I had a similar issue with Yggdrasil - Chromecast wouldn't recognize it with Gen5 card, but I haven't actually tried it with Unison. {goes off to look for old Chromecast left in a drawer somewhere...}

    @zonto Your config is out of my wheelhouse of experience. I am all in favor of keeping it simple. I would not spend money on exotics fixer uppers for TV and would try the longer optical cable to the Yggdrasil from TV.

    I do use a Roku via HDMI to TV and then optical out of the TV to Schiit dac. No sync issues with that or over the air.

    Good luck and let us know how it works out regardless of the solution.

    @Woland, years ago I tried a Kanex Pro HDMI extractor with my (now-sold) Oppo BDP-105D, and the output did not work with Yggdrasil. I think I've read elsewhere that it happens sometimes with Schiit DACs for some reason. Soured me on HDMI extractors, so would prefer to steer clear. That experience is what finally caused me to sell the 105D, and buy a 103D with an Audiopraise VanityHD board that replaces the analog outputs.

    This might be a completely different thing, but I've had issues in the past sending digital audio data from a TV to my DIY DAC. I was using HDMI into the TV, optical out from the TV, and the DAC had a TPA TORX receiver into a CM8416-based MUX. But perhaps SPDIF extracted from a HDMI data stream would be the same.

    In my case, I had to ensure the TV was outputting digital stereo (e.g., turn surround off), and outputting PCM (not Dolby, DTS or Bitstream). The upstream devices (cable box, Xbox One, PS4) might have also needed to be set to stereo and PCM, but I can't double check that right now.

    [EDIT] Just checked my audio output settings, and my Xbox is set to 'Stereo uncompressed', the PS4 to 'Linear PCM' and the cable box auto. Basically, the key to success for me was disabling surround sound and turning off Dolby/DTS everywhere in the chain. Then, optical output from the TV was 100% reliable.

    Nothing so fancy as those. Whichever came installed from the factory, so maybe Gen 2.

    I may try to actually look for my chromecast and give it a whirl through Unison this weekend. might not be the most cost effective solution to your issue to upgrade the USB board in the Gungnir to Unison, but it could be a good data point if it works.

    Just to be sure.. the Chromecast with Google TV is this one.. It's a confusing name, and quite different to the other Chromecasts. Less of an appliance, more of an operating system.

    Ah, gotcha, Chromecast WITH GoogleTV versus Chomecast USING GoogleTV. Mine's old and fuddy-duddy (as far as dongle streamers are concerned), so likely not an appropriate test of compatibility.
