Depends. For standard A and B connectors, it's the socket, and the connectors are rated for only 1500 connect/disconnect cycles (although there's a ruggedized version of the A socket that's good for 10,000 cycles). For mini-B it's also the socket, but the spec is 5000 cycles.

For Micro-B and C, the flexing parts are in the plug, so cables wear out before the expensive devices into which they're plugged. Those connectors are rated for 10,000 cycles.

Thanks! I really should have been been able to work this out for myself .

Started using a new USB a->micro, and the camera grips it nicely. Pics transfer faster too. the old one must have been making bad contact.

    Thanks for the nudge.

For folks that refer to "Monoprice USB cables", please state which cables. Monoprice makes many USB cables:

    Monoprice Select Series
    Monoprice Essentials
    Monolith by Monoprice (1M,2M)

I have a Monolith by Monoprice 2M cables and I'm very happy with it. Seems a bit better made than the cheaper MP cables.

I have used a number of these in different lengths with very good results. I do use a fancy one from Oyaide now but it is under $100.

I don't believe these fall in any of the categories you have listed. I bought them back in 2016 and they did not have anything fancier if memory serves me correctly.

I like these better than the ones Monoprice had with the ferrites (I bought some of those) to use with dacs, but my environment and use case is fairly low in perceptible rfi near the cables.

I make everything with Sommer cable, easy to work on and readily available over here. With their Carbokab i thought i heard an improvement compared to other cables but maybe not. Either way not a big enough expenditure to have me worried about looking like a fool.

Any recommendations for balanced XLR interconnects? I currently have some BJC ones but wondering what else is out there?

I also saw recently that Sommer cable (references above) is used in snake oil cables, which I believe also is a supplier for schiit's Pyst XLR cable.

Lots to choose from here https://www.proaudiola.com/XLR-microphone-cables-s/169.htm
I've used Grimm TPR and it works well. Sommer Carbokab is an option.

I rate Sommer Cable very highly in terms of overall quality and it's inspired me to migrate away from most of the equivalent vanDamme cable types which I currently use.

I use their 'SC stage' in my 'The Braided One' XLR and their 'Carbokab225' (which is also conformant to AES spec) in my 'The Carbon One' cable models.
Those 2 models are consistently in the top 5 selling cables out of my complete range and getting lots of great feedback (which I can share if of any interest).

There's definitely something interesting going on with that carbon substrate. Has exceptional double shielding too

I never cared for Blue Jeans when I tried their low cap SE cables. Have not heard the Sommer, but will second the choice of the Grimm TPR from Pro Audio LA . I like them a lot when I used them in XLR format.
