Looking for a gift for my son under $250. Sorry for creating a thread, but I think many of us want to just buy some good BT cans for someone we love without stretching into HiFi range because it's about introducing someone into HiFi world but be reasonable about budget. So just for reference, for everyone who wants to make a nice gift, assuming the usage pattern will be more than music, but probably games, zoom chats, etc:

    1. The best BT LowFi cans in $200 range?
    2. The best BT near HiFi cans in $300 range?

Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro. Seriously. They sound about as good as any highly regarded 100$ chi-fi IEM, but are fully wireless (and cost here around 180-200€). Decently resolving, warm and somewhat V shaped. Honestly good value and great for gifts. Airpods Pro seem to be well regarded here as well, but IDK how much they cost.

The only other more Pro or Audiophile oriented thing that comes to mind, are the Bluetooth Etymotics (their usual ERXR or ERSE range, with the BT adapter cable). Kinda clunky though.

Thanks! The problem with buds is that I buy my son buds every year, they last about 1 month and then they are lost. My wife gave me buds once, I weared them like 3 times and now only 1 is left. I would consider buds only if they come in packs of 52 so you can grab the next pair every week. No, I am talking about full size or at least reasonably large cans.

Somehow I read you wanted IEMs :p Sorry for that. I am curious to see what others are gonna respond then. I wouldn't mind owning a BT over ear can, which at least competes with the 100$ studio oriented stuff (K361, DT770, M40X, etc.).

I tried Lucid Audio BT adapter for Etymotics and you have to choose between the the ER4XR audiophile quality and convenience of BT. Because with Lucid Audio BT adapter you cannot have both. Ordered on Amazon.ca and promptly sent back. But Etys sound reasonably good with EarStudio ES100, particularly with 2.5 mm balanced out.

What I found just by price from reasonably respectable names:

$160: Sennheiser PXC 550-II Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones

$200: Sennheiser RS 175 Digital Wireless Headphone System

    $220: Sennheiser RS 165 Wireless Over-Ear Headphones

$250: Beyerdynamic Lagoon Explorer Active Noise Cancelling Bluetooth Headphones

    $250: Grado GW100 V2 Wireless Headphones

    $250: Sony WH-1000XM4

    $270: Sennheiser MOMENTUM Wireless

$270: Beyerdynamic MMX 300 (2nd Generation) Premium Gaming Headset

    $280: V-MODA Crossfade 2 Wireless Over-Ear

    $300: Audeze Penrose X (review)

Please tell me if any of those could be considered near- HiFi, for like 70% of sound of real audiophile cans and 1/5 th of the price?

From the search on this site I found the best references to the Audeze Penrose X, so I went with it. If you think any of the other models is more worthy please share.

Like @wormcycle said, get a bluetooth adapter or dap of some sort so you are not so limited in your choices.

Cheap or expensive does not correclate with lofi and hifi. Yes price does increase chances of product designed for target market of audiophile but also equally increases chances of overpriced disappointment pos.

Imagine a teenage boy with 3 computers and phone moving from room to room with dangling wire and BT adapter. Nah, he won't use headphones at all with this setting. Wireless means wireless, no wires at all.

The Penrose is a good choice. The Hifiman Deva is another good one

Try the Anker Life Q30. Cheap, but good. Manual EQ can improve the sound considerably. Rattles a bit but seems rather robust.
i prefer these over the Sony's or Apples for carefree wireless usage.
