Rare. That's Texas or Nebraska steakhouse rare, not California rare. Basically cooked on the outside 1mm, but essentially raw inside. Will provide a photo next time I go.

If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament.

Edit: Until carrying a child to term and giving birth is as safe as an abortion, forcing a woman to do the former legally is analogous to forcing someone to donate a kidney. I could not and would not do that and I don't want the government doing it on my behalf. Everything the government does is in our name. That said, Roe v. Wade is a poorly- reasoned, lawless decision completely untethered from the language of the constitution and precedent. Abortion, as a matter of policy should be legal. Maybe not anytime, anywhere purely on demand, but ultimately available safely and legally. But it should be the states making those decisions, not the Feds. There is no constitutional right to abortion, except maybe in the imaginations of Potter Stewart and Wm. O. Douglas.

Maybe...but it seems you want this information so you can tell them why they are wrong. That's a sad life to live.....

No, I don't really think anyone is wrong. I travel around talking to people about their positions, generally with more tact than this. I've talked to a couple thousand people at this point about all sorts of things, at length. I talk to people because I find that everyone knows something I don't, and it's valuable to integrate how they look at things. I understand and accept how that's a perfectly reasonable conclusion given the short interaction you've had with me here, though. I'd probably make the same call in your position. Admittedly, I am very stressed out these past few days. Sorry if that somehow came out at you in any way.

Really? I find that hard to believe... or maybe I've just been exposed to too many scummy people. :(

I have met very racist people over the years. Those who would quip that it was a shame such'n'such couldn't be "cleaned" off the streets. So much of it is institutionalized/generational hate, but there's so much "new" hate too that it almost seems fashionable.

I used to work with a guy who was so homophobic that he believed getting a blowjob from his wife was gay because that meant if he kissed her his lips would be touching penis secondhand. This same guy laughed about how the police would "protect" the gays in his home country during pride parades then turn around and stone them, and wishing he could join in.

I want to believe that people are good as a whole, but I don't have a very high viewpoint of humanity these days. Actually in a way the pandemic has been good for that, because I just deal with less people overall now and see less of the hate except for the crap online which frankly isn't healthy for anyone in the first place.

I for one think that your statement tells us more about you than Soliloqueen‘s real intentions. I find hervcontributions in this thread a breath of fresh air. The amount of words with capital letters and those ending in -ism tend to give me a headache. Yet to find an -ism or an organisation starting with a capital letter which I could wholeheartedly trust.

    Random Reactions...
I wasn't there, but I think UK, when they got around to it, had fairly strict lockdown.

I was there, and India lockdown, at least at first was a bit totalitarian! Cops were beating people up for going out! Even now, we are having daft lockdown, like only on Sunday and night curfew.

Are you saying that they were not taken seriously? My real knowledge of history is very poor, but in plague days, didn't whole villages close to outsiders? Weren't people quite serious in the flu pandemic about 100 years ago, but made the mistake of thinking it was all over when it wasn't?
I'm not sure: historians please correct.

My theory about what makes this plague, pandemic, or whatever name one wants to call it, different is: internet and social media. Blessing and Curse: what, equally? How do people rate that?

Ethics doesn't need religion, and never did. The urge to be better needs definition of good.

But some people are monsters! Not just the famous ones; lots of ordinary, every-day monsters about.

(I do believe that people are basically good, or, at least, not bad.)

I do agree with the comments about existing! And my personal belief is that, having decided to come here, if one route closed, we'd just have found another one.

I'm adopted too. 1950s Britain, where single mothers could be committed to mental institutions for the mental illness of loose morals (or something like that, they called it). Yes, I'm glad that someone gave birth to me; yes, I'm delighted that a great couple then took on the task of being my effective mother and father after that.

    Very true.

A cow is going to die because of you! Monster!

    ( ;) I'm a meat eater too)

C O N T E X T (this is the second time where my post was taken out of context**)

The particular person who posted had shit all over @crenca, who as a parent chose to send his kids to a parochial school, in a prior post. Going off on @crenca that he was a paranoid nutjub, that his kids could end up gay anyway, or molested by priests, etc. (I'm totally paraphrasing and the stuff may not all have been in the same post, but that's how it came off).

This is the second time which the person posted where he caricatured, demonized those who did share the same beliefs.

I know people who are anti-abortion, anti gay-marriage, anti gay education in schools. They have a different belief system opposite to that of modern day "progressives", and even then it's never black and white, more shades of gray. Heck, even the current Pope is shades of gray on the gay issues (making him too extreme for anyone). The minute you hate and think the worst of people who have different beliefs, you lose, society loses. And there are more of these people than most people think. It's because they usually keep their mouths shut and they may not be who we expect. Chew on this: 40% of Americans regularly go to church, Christian church.

These aren't the type who are going to sue abortion providers in Texas or out gay people at their kids high-schools - because that's the wrong thing to do - two wrongs don't make a right. The folks I know who believe in the traditional family have a strong moral compass. Many of them are minorities too. It's not just white Republicans, because we all know that white Republicans are super shitty people who must be evil*.

As far as monsters, of course there are shitty people. There have been shitty people here on SBAF who are no longer here. We gave them a chance. In some cases, two or three.

    * Ronald Raygun was evil personified among my high schools teachers. (I asked them, they didn't volunteer). They all voted for Anderson and Mondale. Look how well Raygun is looked back on today. And oh yeah, sarcasm, in case people didn't get it.

** By people with "different beliefs", we are not talking about Nazis, white-supremacists, rapists, Ghislaine Maxwell, etc.

Day is almost over and that sounds really good right now. It solves the problem of not being able to get a good char with a blue rare steak. I use to be able to kind of do this when I had the egg. With charcoal, I could get it up to 750-800. Crack open the lid while gearing protective gear, scoot in a steak, and take it out after a minute.

So many inside jokes. Their ship is the Cerritos, a California class. That episode when there was another same class ship, but named the Alhambra, I burst out laughing. Folks in SoCal would get it. These ships are named after "random" burbs in El Lay. Indicative of the very un-glamorous, but important roles they play as support vessels. I dunno, this is my kind of humor. It works for me.

The key to Lower Decks is the characters. I love the characters and I think regular people can identify with aspects of all of them. The cute part is how they are most happy being themselves rather than being who they think they want to be. It resonates with me because I was an Asian kid raised by old school parents who taught me to be success driven. It took me decades to realize how success was illusory and didn't make me happy.

With Discovery, I want all the characters to die horrible accidents in space. Same with Picard. Just replace and rotate in new actors. The characters aren't likable, they aren't relatable, they act like whiny bitches, they are played by either bad actors or extremely ugly people, one grossly obese. (Doesn't Starfleet, a quasi-military organization, have fitness requirements?) Call me shallow, but ugly or fat people need to make up for it with superior acting abilities so strong that they can almost carry the show.

Discovery season one only worked because of Jason Isaacs. Season two Anson Mount - who carried that entire season. The rest of the cast now sort of flounders and flails about. Not to mention that the Michael Burnham character sucks (writers can't figure out if she embodies her Vulcan logical upbringing or is the stereotype of a confused bat-shit black lady) and is uniquely unqualified to command a unique starship. The woke stuff (being cis male or female is being in the minority - the majority is some form of gay or gender-fluid) just makes it worse. When shit is wrapped in wokeness (or is it wokeness wrapped in shit), you get the impression that wokeness is being shoved down your throat.

Going to post this from the film thread about the "wokeness" in entertainment. Credit goes to @ColtMrFire. Article from the link does have some interesting reader comments.

I didn't read the comments or the article for that matter - just the snippet @ColtMrFire posted, but I'm not surprised. I have a "you made your bed, now you have to lie in it" attitude. It's a problem with heterogeneous cultures, they usually become purity cultures sooner or later.

It's fine. Hollywood can do what it wants. Eventually things will correct itself because of this:

Can they just bring back Michelle Yeoh and have her stab people?
