Yep those three sets of lambskin pads will be included, if you have other pads you're definitely welcome to try them.

@zach915m I would recommend sending them with the perforated mesh that Marv preferred. He’s got a good sense of the preferences of SBAF.

Been thinking about this; how does @zach915m and the SBAF community feel about there potentially being two units? One with the full mesh, and the other with the vented? That way the people signing up can see which one they'd like better

I might like this idea IF the tour list is 1/4 or less.. The main trade-off comes down to the following question: which do you like to tolerate better, doubled waiting time (i.e., at worst several months more ) vs inconvenience to compare simultaneously? I am honestly a little more sensitive to waiting time. But want to see what others think.

For the reference, I'm seeing 33 people in the tour list as of now. Note 33 weeks are already more than 8 months.

less wait... at 8 mths I'm probably dropping out or will have figured out another way to get ears on them.

If I think I'm unsure which mesh I would like, then I'm probably just buying all of the mesh options and switching them on my personal unit. The cost of the additional mesh isn't going to be material compared to the cost of the cans.

For tracking / accountability purposes, I have the loaner unit right now with "marv mesh" while @ChaChaRealSmooth and those in charge of everything decide on what to do with the mesh + ship parts to each other. I'll count this as my requested 2-3 days and take myself off of the official loaner after I return the headphones early next week.

Will leave more thought out "actual" impressions in the thread, but for the time being after 3 hours of listening, I will say that I can easily see different PERSONAL preferences liking different mesh setups. Based on hearing the "completely closed original mesh" and the "more open marv mesh", I suspect my personal preference is going to be the new "stock mesh" that is somewhere between these two options. I will try to go over the differences I heard in my impressions to hopefully help people decide on what they want when/if they place an order.

Sounds like it's time for another one of these:

    Update on this tour:

Zach will send me a set of the new, updated mesh which is less open than the Marv mesh (aka the new stock mesh if I understand correctly) but more open than the old full mesh. The loaner units will have the new mesh installed and will not include the other mesh options to minimize risk of damage; however I do sincerely believe that this middle mesh between Marv mesh and full mesh will be the happy medium that most SBAFers would enjoy the most. Those who choose to purchase a set can discuss with Zach about mesh options.

We will have two units going. One will go to the East, and the other West. I will work on the list and as soon as I get the updated mesh we will start the tour.

Another note: any EU friends who would like the opportunity to try the Atrium please post here or PM me. I will do my best to get something arranged for the EU crew. I'll be blunt and say that it will be some time before a unit would be sent out there (probably after one of the tours end here in CONUS) but we will figure it out.

I have just received the new mesh. The unit will be sent out early next week with the tour list being put up in the next few days.

I will also be in contact with @zach915m to let him know to send out the east coast unit as soon as I get things going.

    @ChaChaRealSmooth

Instructions say 'Insure for half' -- can you tell us what that number should be? Thank you.

And thanks for doing this -- didn't want this to be a thankless task :)

As far as having @zach915m check them, perhaps just insert him into the list periodically -- say every 5 or 6 testers -- whatever seems like the right interval.

I know that I'll be happy to have my visit deferred for a bit to ensure that I hear Atrium the way he intended it to sound.

Updated the OP to add insurance value.

Also, Zach doesn't need to check on these anymore since we will not be offering the mesh to swap. Too many chances for things to go FUBAR otherwise even though I know most of SBAF aren't dumbasses.

FWIW, I would suggest one being sent with the radial vented mesh and one with the stock mesh since it's a dual loaner. I think the difference is fairly stark (for me would have swung the keep/sell decision if it weren't user swappable), and for those that normally prefer a brighter headphone that might allow for more favorable impressions.

Of course my opinion is completely unsolicited and if out of line I apologize.

We're going to send them both with the stock mesh - it's best to have impressions be of the stock version, things will get confusing otherwise. Sorry about that! Basically if you hear them and are like "I'd like this better with a touch more edge, or a touch smoother" then you can try the other mesh later on if you decide to get one.

Good to know things are under way - I am going to send the other loaner set to @Hands first as there were a couple things up with his loaner set so he never got to hear the final version, I'll likely have that out later this week or early next week, but if you send me the info for the the first person after him on the other leg, I will send him a label with the headphones so he doesn't have to worry about that part.

I'll check in on this thread, but if you get the headphones and anything seems awry, just email us at [email protected] and we will help out however needed.

Out of respect to the community members waiting to try the Atrium loaner, I would not recommend sending me a unit if I am to kick it off for a loaner tour. I just have way too much shit going on in life right now, at work and at home, and find it difficult to perform timely turnarounds on loaners (among many other things).

As much as I would still like to hear the Atrium as it is meant to be heard and share my impressions, I think it's more important for community members to get their hands on it. I don't want to be a bottleneck for them.
