I sense an obvious loss in response from around 170 to around 300 Hz with a minimum at around 230 Hz, indeed in some agreement with the measurements using this sweep test (assuming the sweep is implemented correctly):

Much appreciated. If they drop in price, I might give them a go regardless (always wanted a closed can that would play nicely with my crack), but that dip is a damn shame.

The do go deep though. Sub-bass is definitively there.

Best way to EQ a dip is with parametric EQ using negative pre gain equal to the amount you're raising the dip.

I still equalize my ass off when I'm feeling saucy, but I've largely stopped buying headphones that need a lot of EQ to sound good.

I learned most of what I know about EQ from when I owned the JVC HA-SZ2000. They hit harder in the bass department than every headphone ever but the stock sound signature sounds like the underside of a cart being pulled by morbidly obese oxen across a damp peat bog. They do take to equalization very well and the drivers are extremely capable.

Has anybody tried to disassemble these cans? Can´t get to the drivers because the construction differs from previous Beyer models. They also seem to be vented yet don´t leak much at all? I bet something strange is going on with the damping inside. The huge dip around 200 Hz doesn´t seem like intentional tuning to me.

I would guess that it is due to resonance as often happens with closed cans, at least partially due to the pads.

And it already started... Saw a decent deal posted in head fi with the 1770 @ $477. Slowly but surely it's bound to go down in price.

$400, same price as the T90s, seems fair to me. Comfort and looks are excellent and you get a nice case plus extra pads. Sound quality sucks in my opinion. The huge dip results in a very hollow presentation. There´s a serious lack of warmth in the sound signature. Combine that with the metallic treble and you have one of the most boring and un-engaging headphones on the market. No bueno.

Dalethorn loves the 1770. Isn't that all you need to know?

I ordered the DT-1770 Pro first week of January - now finally it is on its way in the mail. Can't wait to be home tonight and open some new gear. It's been 9 months since last time when I got the T51p. OH that "new-gear-feeling"....

I will compare the DT-1770 with my old T5p 1st gen and I will use my Meier Daccord+Classic to drive the DT-1770 Pro.

Is Beyerdynamic the worst company out there? Weird FRs, horrible QC, I haven't found single good measurement for DT 250 250, guy from here had DT 770 with one side wrongly wired etc etc

Define worst. I stay away from Sony and Bose.

If you have to go for one Beyerdynamic get a good DT1350, add the HD25 ear pads and do not look back. The DT1350 can be amazing when it suits your needs.

Probably not the worst. I still consider Beyerdynamic headphones much better than ones made by Ultrasone. Some of the slightly older Beyer headphones were and still are fairly decent. ie. DT880's made in the mid to late 2000's. From my experience most of the recent Beyer headphones with the tesla drivers have various issues. The T1's, T70, T90, T5p come to mind.

    I have DT880 Pro and a late T1 v1
    Both have their strong points

I use my DT880 more than my HD650

Let's put aside frequency response as something subjective, since people may like very odd sounding cans, and that's perfectly fine. Since I started getting interested in this hobby, and reading forums like crazy, I've never found a brand with so many quality control complains, like Beyerdynamic. I was so keen on getting DT 250 250, but after so many different reviews (rolled of highs in one review, slightly bright highs in other), and inconsistent measurements (which can't be found on Senn's cans, or I think so) I had to go with HD580.

Edit: I might take back my words, there is plenty of horrible stuff out there, not fair to bash just them.
