The aesthetic totally reminds me of the D'Augistino Relentless Monoblocks:

OK OK, I know, this is porn, and sure, in many ways that is gorgeous! It's my bad that I just can't help thinking Sheesh, what percentage of the product price is that case?

It's like some stupid brain cell interrupting my sexual fantasies with "Hey, she's young enough to get pregnant and you don't have any condoms." For f**k's sake, shut the f**k up! Nobody ever got pregnant from a fantasy! Sheeeesh!

    It's a great-looking amp pair :)

Those fall into the "tried too hard" category for me. Weird heat fins that are seem almost non-functional because they are recessed and you can't get good convective flow there (I could argue it may almost be worse than a flat panel). Tell me you can at least dim the green glow?

Looks like something straight out of Bioshock. Happy to look at it, but would never want to own it.

If airflow is an issue that way, then one can only imagine the heat issues with the stack including the preamp...

    dan-dagostino-relentless-preamplifier-in-silver.jpg

The amps alone are $300k US, so I'm not going to be worrying if these are space heaters or not....

It appears to be on castors. Maybe he's the brake.

I didn't even know hifi amplifiers this size were even made! If I had to deal with them I'd invest in an engine hoist.

Or a pallet truck. Which they probably have, else how did they get that stuff in there!

That's what I thought until I saw the casters on the bottom. More likely he is trying to keep it from rolling back while the guys lift it off the crate on the other end.

    Effective Herculean face though.

I think they are all of them involved in some sort of unnatural orgy with the thing.

I hope they sanitize it before delivery

    Eimac 100TH tube amp.

PS: not a pic of an amp per se, but this (if well build with a proper power supply) has to sound glorious because it is such a good idea on paper. It's from a post made by Dave Slagle in 2005 on Audio Asylum:
    https://db.audioasylum.com/mhtml/m.html?forum=tubediy&n=75692&highlight=direct+coupled+dave+slagle&r=&search_url=/cgi/search.mpl?searchtext=direct+coupled&b=AND&topic=&topics_only=N&author=dave+slagle&date1=&date2=&slowmessage=&sort=date&sortOrder=DESC&forum=ALL

"Eimac 15E direct coupled to a GM-70 where both the plate choke and the OT had tertiary windings to offset DC. (this amp was at NY noise)"

From the non-technical point of view: it looks pretty and it's blue.

(Heck, people have married for lesser reasons than that!)

    (And hey... big toobs!)

Oh, that's a different amp. The one described doesn't even have pics posted online, it's a super rare topology.

It's full of advantages on paper, that amp would deliver around 30 watts in class A with lots of gain and drive (very robust driver stage with the 15H).
The tubes are direct coupled to each other, meaning there's no cap or interstage transformer in between them like most SET amps out there. It requires custom made transformers that have a tertiary winding that applies a little bit of negative feedback to prevent dc offset. This is a very elegant solution because it doesn't add any more unnecessary parts. AFAIK some Eddie Current amps have transformers with tertiary windings but none of them are direct coupled like this hypothetical speaker amp.

The main advantage is that with the right, high sensitivity speakers (very big and important factor) such an amp would let you make choices that simplify the chain a lot. For example, incorporate a passive autoformer volume control on the amp, since you don't need the extra gain of an active preamp, and even have a DAC without output stage (since you don't need the extra gain of the output stage) or some low gain full DHT phono stage with a turntable setup. Things that wouldn't be possible with less powerful SET amps with more parts (interstage transformers/coupling caps) or less sensitive speakers.

Of course, this kind of stuff is crazy rich audiophile with lots of free time only, but this is an amplifier porn thread so it kinda fits despite having no pics of it :D

My thoughts exactly. And probably you don't need any extra heating in winter when sitting close to these :D

    Sakuma "Kiyomizu" 4P55 amplifier

    [IMG] [IMG]

Love the chassis colors and how over the top it is. As with most of what Sakuma did (he listened to mono records most of the time), that's a mono amp, another one would be needed for stereo

That is a Frankenstein of an amp! Chassis color is dope. Reminds me of Shindo green.
