"Cet écran est damné de la manière", ROFL :D
May I propose something else : "Cette saloperie de filtre en tissu m'empêche d'accéder au driver !"

"Cet écran est damné de la manière"

If I translate it back it's "This screen is damned the way"

    Sounds biblical.

I think this video is pretty unfair (it is funny tho).
Sennheiser essentially thought of a whole new way to improve the performance of the HD800. I don't think that many people thought of using the cavity in the middle of the driver to damp the 6khz peak before and it still seems like their resonator is the most effective at doing so. Even if you don't agree with the price increase, the HD800S is a great product for people who don't want to mod their headphones.
I think Tyll did a great job at giving us his honest and unbiased opinion.

It is indeed very clever. I've heard about helmholtz resonators before in pipes but didn't realize they could be flat as well.

From the old Changstar site no less. Use these keywords in Google and specify images: "AKG headphone treble filter K501." Do not fall for Sennheiser's marketing B.S. when they claim "oh we are so original."

Oh, I meant the HD800 specifically, never meant to say that they were the first to use a helmholtz resonator to attentuate treble.

Nonetheless (I quickly read through the short thread on head-fi that a similar pic was linked to; I think I forgot what the changstar thread said and it doesn't seem to work right now), I don't think that these two are comparable. The HD800S seems to have a cavity, while this only looks like a way to attach that foam infront of the dome of the driver. Obviously you can't really put a resonator in the headphone the way Senn did if you don't have a ring-driver.
But as I said, my comment was restricted to the HD800...

Not sure if anyone had thought of using the centre hole to place a resonator in there but it was definitely picked up as one of the causes of the resonance in the first place.

Before the HD800 made audio history AKG had its K-series. AKG experimented like a bunch of mad scientists with all kinds of drivers and configurations and back in the day AKG already knew that some people preferred less treble a.k.a. highs. These two are comparable, moreover even if they do not exactly do the same thing the objectives largely remain the same.

Novelty technology, cute. Get a KSC75, play around with the ear pad foam and you get similar results if you do it right. Sennheiser is not revolutionary in putting things in front of the driver. Knowing this I cannot take Sennheiser seriously. Their steak needs more salt...

I doubt that the hole is deep (or big) enough to cause a resonance at that frequency. It would probably be way higher and I would guess that the mesh is pretty permeable at such a high frequency.

The objectives may be the same but:
-By not putting stuff infront of the driver and using a resonator instead (like Senn did with the HD800S) you can more selectively damp a frequecy. Most other materials act more like a low pass filter with a certain Q and frequency. Obviously this doesn't work with other headphones and it would have been much better if the HD800 never needed this in the first place.

The stuff Senn did put infront of the driver (the dust cover) actually makes the peak worse on many measurements.

None of thisreally matters in the end. Sennheiser managed to impove the HD800 by using the resonator and afaik they never acted like they did something revoluionary.
