It would be more interesting (and probably hilarious) to see someone asking Mike!

It was just a question if he heard it or not. Don't look too much into it. I know he heard other stuff that was there.

And for the record, the OPA1656 were not available at the time of the creation of the original Bifrost Multibit. That DAC precedes the 1656 by 2 to 3 years, and only in the last couple of years been an actual serious consideration. Obviously there are mods to lots of products, DACs, amps, headphones, etc. And obviously Schiit is using some of those op amps now, so it is all related, relatable, relevant, etc. Old cars get modded with modern parts all the time and the execs and engineers at Ford or Chevy sometimes they take ideas from the hot rodders.

So yea, I am curious if Jason had heard someone elese's modded gear and I don't care if you think differently about that. I'm good, thanks.

I was also curious if Jason or Mike got to hear it. Hell, maybe they workshopped a version of the BF1 with 1656s before deciding to go for the BF2, I don’t know, but I am just curious because I think the modded Bifrost sounds really good and Jason did chime in a few times on the hacking Schiit thread. And yes, he mostly did say “that’s different”.

Then don't reply to me and instead ask Jason yourself or present the mods in the Hacking Schiit thread for Jason to comment or not comment instead of trying to satisfy personal ego trying to get a snippet. People are busy.

Look, I don't even know anything about this modded Bifrost. All I heard was somebody was going to bring a modded Bifrost. I asked how it was modded. No one could answer other than the mod was "really simple". I don't even know who came up with the idea for the mod, who did the mod, what the mod even is. I still do not.

That's already a poor start considered how we have a Hacking Schiit thread.

The reason I ask is that I filter shit. I am one busy dude in service of another busy dude and a not small number of new and existing MoTs at the Show with random SBAF members blowing up fuses on $10000 amps. This seems to be forgotten by some people here. If I found out that the mods of the Bifrost consisted of opamp swaps, I would have turned it down, probably because I will have already known what they would do. (And BTW, Dave, one of the Schiit digital guys, tries a million opamps. He chooses them by their ability to do the job and how they sound. I've literally heard a stack of Modius E with different opamps and I still have no idea of the final choice.)

Now if I found out that someone made their own DAC resistor ladder and made a pin compatible board or connector into the Bifrost, that I most certainly would have checked out and maybe even brought it to Jason's attention if it sounded good.

If I found out that something interesting was done to the power supply, like cramming a choke inside, that would have piqued my interest too. I've most convinced that the Bifrost power supply has a certain sound.

If it sounds like I am annoyed about this whole thing, it's because I am. I'm put into a difficult position where I am torn between expending whatever life force I have remaining into putting my ears and others ears on the modded Bifrost (which I know nothing about) or just saying f**k it, I don't have the time (which I know will bum and disappoint some members). I cannot express how much I dislike the latter option, but I often have no choice these days.

At the end of the meet/show, somebody did pull out the modded Bifrost: Oh did you still want to hear it? Take it home?

    Nope.

What I am getting at (and I could be wrong) is that this entire modded Bifrost deal sounded like an ego gratification thing from the start because nobody seemed to be able to tell me anything about it. (Again, we have a Hacking Schiit thread here). Without more information, I would have thrown this Bifrost out the window before I let anyone important get near it. Sorry, I consider Jason a friend and no way I am going to let anything diminish his life force, even for a second.

Ask not what SBAF (or Jason) can do you for, but what you can do for SBAF.

Every post, every reply, every request: ask yourself if this: 1) This this is going to kill Marv; 2) Is this going to enable Marv to get more loaners, produce more content, make SBAF better, etc.

I want to thank all those who made this meet possible. Also a big thank-you to those who took pictures and wrote impressions for the great many of us who couldn't attend, which provide some insight into the event.

Some more, far less than I intended. Starting with the Modi Multibit 2. We can see the selector button is smaller. Maybe an NOS mode a la Bifrost 64 when it comes out?

Front desk volunteers, and they most certainly did not need to do it because they are already accomplished in their own right, but they did it anyway.

Just to set the record straight, Azimuth posted this in detail in the Hacking Schiit thread in April: https://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/hacking-schiit.11261/page-7#post-379584

And it wasn’t even his ideas, in Hands’ LIM review he mentioned the LIM reminded him of his opamp modded Bifrost Multibit.

Good things come to those with patience.
Given my current fascination with Modi 3E and Vali 2+ I will definitely want to acquire MM2 for the lab. Both for listening and measurements.

You totally missed the point and just took another 3 months off my life.

OK, you are right. I should have had ESP and known the modded Bifrost was this even though nobody at the Show could tell me what it was. To be honest, I wish I had known it was this so I could have informed everyone in advance I had no time for it there.

Hey Marv, don't worry about any of this, you can't respond to everyone or please everyone to complete satisfaction. You just can't. You did an amazing job with this meet, and I'm so grateful for your efforts and letting me show my headphones there. I've been working on them for 2 years relentlessly, up all night many many nights and I've been working on orthos since 2010. So getting to show them means so much to me in a very personal way. And seeing this positive feedback just really warms my heart. And you made it possible.

That's a direct way this meet has made my life better thanks to your efforts. If you know about my life, you should know how much this means to me.

Who gives a f**k about the Modded Bifrost, was there a keg at the event?

Honestly I wish I was there over the weekend, I really wanted to hear the Nitsch Piety over the upgraded Bifrost. Honestly, upgrading my Biforst doesn't give me a really hard on when thinking about the Piety.

Interesting. There's a Psvane box next to the Lyr+ in purr1n's pic. I'd been wondering why schiit was charging an extra hundred $$$ if you want a tube with the amp, instead of the usual cheap $10 or $15 stock tube. Given that I'd likely want a Psvane if I go with this amp, based on the impressions in the Lyr3 thread, that might work nicely for me.

No clue whether Schiit have made up their minds about what stock tube(s) they want to use, and there is another box there I can't make out.

@Vansen, @CEE TEE, @SoupRKnowva and my wife and daughter (no, these guys didn't creep her out) went up the street to the Clay Pit. They pulled off high-end Indian quite well. Probably one of the most legit Indian places I've been in a long time (and no, Amber in Santana Row of San Jose CA does not count as a legit place), fresh spices, etc. Their naan was slight fail, a bit too doughy. Likely didn't have the right oven.

The boys and I had at least four pours of Stagg (cask strength, seemed suspiciously like Booker's), Blantons, Weller, Oban 14. I then got summoned by Rich Grado via text (being a secret Grado fanboi I was so geeked) to attend another gathering of 50+ old geezers like myself where I had two more pours of Redbreast 12. @Vansen and @CEE TEE stayed at the Clay Pit and were gifted a partially finished bottle of a special Lagavulin with a green label because of the craptastic service we received at the Clay Pit. I was so bummed that I missed that. It was one of those things where I needed to be at two places at once.

The night before, I hit the hotel restaurant and had two pours of a local cask strength that I think started with a C. If anyone can help me out what this was, it would be appreciated. It was a peppery textured one which I felt may have been too much, but the pepperiness subsided with subsequent sips revealing some fruitiness. That was a nice one. Before this, I had four glasses of wine at Perry's with this:

    PXL_20220722_005057782.jpg

That a bigass pork chop. Ribs above. The eyelash to the right. The loin to the left (which being less fatty must be dipped in the applesauce). I asked the waitress about this dish. Evidently the eyelash is left at the bottom and the ribs hung up for the fat to drip down into it. My neighbors across the street in Corpus had been recommending the pork chop at Perry's for some time now and I'm glad I finally got to experience it. Yes, the portion is huge.

@YMO: so yes, I took this opportunity to get myself back into shape. I've never been the same since I got Valley Fever a few years ago. It's taken me this long to feel almost as strong again, working out, building alcohol tolerance, etc. And I did hit the gym on the second floor, next to the Folkbanger room.
