    So will Urd.

Urd > Gungnir > Freya is a lot of capability in a fairly modest footprint.

Sweet thanks. I've ordered my 2/64 card but now still have something new to play with while I wait. :)

    Thanks, works great.

They're serious about the formatting requirements, btw. The MicroSD card absolutely needs to be formatted as a single FAT32 (not exFAT) partition with 32KB clusters.

I just wish I knew how Yiggy OG, Yiggy LIM, Gungnir MB, and BF2/64 compare via SE (not balanced) to a 2.0 stereo setup.

    • Yggdrasil OG: most exciting sound, organic lows, sparkly highs, upper bass lower mids can be thick or grey from SE
    • Yggdrasil LIM: dark sounding, most fluid, mellow tone, clear and clean, less resolving than above. SE sounds the same as BAL.
    • Gungnir MB: neutral with some density, slightly emphasized upper mids (great with 300B amps). SE slightly veiled.
    • Bifrost 64: slightly U-shaped but mostly bassy, clear and clean. SE is more or less the same as BAL.

    Damn. You are good. Thanks.

My hope for Gungnir 2 MB was...

    • Sound-wise between what you write for Gungnir MB and Yggdrasil OG. Meaning, add a little excitement and sparkly highs to Gungnir MB.
    • SE = BAL (like LIM and BF2/64).
    • Autonomy for easier upgrades.
    • Unison.
    • Same case size as current one.
    • Remote control (nice to have but not a must).
But I guess Schiit will never make this happen. I wonder if another manufacturer will? Chord Qutest 2?

I think @purr1n was talking about the Gungnir A2 or Gungnir 2 MB as you call it.

Ok, so now that I've listened to a little music through my Bifrost 2 in the new NOS mode, I have what's probably a dumb question: Do the people who like NOS DACs like them because they like the way that Red Book 44/16 sounds through them, or because they want to use their own resampler/filter instead of the implementations in commercial oversampling DACs?

I'll probably flash my bifrost 2 to check out NOS and I will eventually try some filters somehow. I think it will show me just how much I love the megacomboburrito though.

This 2/64 upgrade must be more popular than Schiit expected. When I ordered mine it said ships in 1-2 weeks. A couple days later it said ships in 2-3 weeks. Just looked again and now it says ships in 4-6 weeks. Big change in only 4 days.

When I had the Holo Spring 3 in house, I preferred NOS 44.1K to upsampled material via HQPlayer/JRiver, though it was fun playing with different rates for different interpretations of sound.

Amusedly enough, I'm the complete opposite with my Spring KTE2... I prefer upsampling to 176.4/192 (but my impression of was that the KTE 3 was sharper/more incisive than the KTE2... preferred the 2.)

I liked my Holo spring 2 with 48k (movies) and 44.1k too :) but one has to be tolerant of the high freq roll-off.

In his reply to mine, I am pretty sure @purr1n was referring to the latest Gungnir MB A2 product. But in my reply to him, I mention a fictional "Gungnir 2" which I had hope would sound a certain way and include certain features. Now it looks like Gungnir will die and never return, leaving a massive $1400 gap in their lineup.

Has anyone upgraded their BF2 firmware and been able to get it to go into NOS mode?

    I have.

Hold the Input Select button (on the DAC, not the remote) for ten seconds. If the input changes, you have not successfully updated the firmware.

If the input does not change, release the button. The selected input's LED will begin to slowly fade on and off. This "breathing" indicates that you're in NOS mode.

To toggle between NOS and oversampling mode, hold the Input Select button. It's not necessary to hold it for 10 seconds; 2 or 3 is enough.

That's the boat I'm in. Not sure why as I followed the instructions exactly. FAT32, 32KB, and .dat files in the root directory.

I get the typical FW update light show when it boots up and it eventually settles onto an input, but no NOS mode.

I submitted a ticket, so we'll see what they say, but I wanted to mention it in case anyone else ran into difficulties.

Question on the new BF2 firmware... does the new firmware change anything sonically when in oversampling mode? (re, similar to the firmware upgrade for the modi mb)... or does it simply add the ability to change to NOS mode?
