M50/M50x are very polarising headphones, and sometimes not due to different tastes, but due to being different models with the same name.

We all know about the silent revision of M50 in the early '10s, people have claimed that there are models that sound nothing alike. Then it came M50x, slightly warmer headphones, but with a similar signature, and I've thought they stopped with revisions.

Since I've been thinking about buying a pair of M50x, I researched a little bit, and it turns out M50x has the same problem M50 series have. There are multiple cases where people reported that their new M50x pairs sound nothing like their old ones. Like, night and day.

So does anybody know what the hell is wrong with Audio-Technica and their constant fixing of what is not broken? I know there are a lot of fake ones, but I don't believe that's the case all the time. It seems like Audio-Technica is either doing these silent revisions all the time, or they don't have decent quality control.

I really want to get a pair of M50x, but since I cannot return them, it's really risky.

So I managed to find an official seller in my city and they were nice so they let me try the M50x. I listened to M50 and M50x before, and even tho memory is faulty, I don't remember hearing M50x being this bright and V shaped. Like, highs are really, really bright. I decided not to go with them for now.

I’m told some people have a preference for V shape for tracking.

might not be for most people. Seems like a tool more than anything.

I absolutely agree with that. I understand and support people liking different stuff. I am rather talking about somethinh that seems like inconsistency in Audio-Technica's sound.
