How is the HD600 tonally compared to SR-009?

Sort of having a hard time finding useful info on this, I guess since there is such a big price difference between them. I'm using the HD600 with an early Eddie Current amp that is I believe OTL (HD25). DAC is Yggdrassil. I had an HD800 with the same setup, tried some of the foam mods documented on Inner Fidelity and wasn't really a fan of them. Looking at the Inner Fidelity's graphs SR-009 frequency response looks ok, except for the dip from 1 khz onward.

    Thanks guys

Tonally, they're noticeably different. I have a pair of 650's and haven't listened to a pair of 600's in a while.

600's are warmer, arguably more neutral. SR-009 have a bit of a cold character, have the ethereal quality of all electrostats (notes decay quickly), and have a bit less bass weight (but hit way deeper when fitted to your head properly). 009 soundstage is larger and imaging is way better - very three-dimensional even though it isn't gigantic in size. In technical terms, they're not in the same league. In terms of detail especially, the 009's extract a ton of it and push it to your attention. I like the 600's same as everyone else here, but they can't compete.

Despite all that, you might find the 600's preferable for tonal balance or lack of fatigue. As much as I like the 009's, I sometimes can't listen to them for more than a few hours at a time.

HD600 (older measurement, might be a better one somewhere else)
Some low bass rolloff, small upper mid peaks, but otherwise a gentle slope downward. Last octave measurement is probably inaccurate.

    HD800 (recent)
Treble spike and elevated lower and mid treble.

    SR-009 (from @ultrabike)
Slightly rising response from bass to mids, afterward a depressioni in the upper mids / lower treble. Inverse V. Mid-centric sound.

If you walked into a production bay doing sound work for the entertainment industry, the sound you hear will be most similar to the HD600.

Thanks. I have to add there is nothing for me to complain about the HD600, really just curious about the SR-009.

I owned a Stax SR-007 MK1 as well and I disliked how loud they needed to be played to sound good.

NoStream- I only listen to an hour of music in a day, not much time with school to do more. I think I would have liked the SR-007 more if I was using them a lot more.
