Same, the LED has never lit up on mine. Haven't had any issues.

I cooked my piety (left it on) for ~3 days before trying. Wow, I think this definitely punches way above its price. It doesn't really make me feel I'm missing out much compared to the big amps. I think if this came out while I was in middle/high school it could have been the end of my audio journey, hah. It has a such an addicting sweet tone too. I'll be using this a lot to test my own stuff before sending them out. An awesome job @CEE TEE !! Thank you for sharing this jewel of an amp to the world.

I cooked mine too, albeit for two days, as I wrote above, I am mighty displeased still with it pairing with HD650. could be the the DAC... I am picking my Parasound D/AC-1600 from the repairs shop today, will see how it sounds, but in terms of looks, it's probably hard to imagine something more incongruous than a cigarette-sized Piety sitting atop a rack-sized, heavy monster like D/AC-1600.

I had this weird idea that Piety, or a Schiit Magni would make for a good OEM module board, something the likes of Atoll could offer in addition to their optional DAC and phono boards for their integrated amps.

Yes, might be your dac as you say, too many variables... I also hate how some 580s sound and absolutely love how some 580s sound. There's so much variation, and also unit variations. Same with 650. Probably the hp's I tested with Piety has really good synergy?

I like my Piety amp for long listening sessions. Because it is less incisive than my other solid state amps, I find it enjoyable while working. I find it pairs well with my HD650 and ETA Gen G. I didn’t notice the LED until I read the recent previous postings.

Edit: I think the Gen G works well because the Piety amp’s bass rolls off. Gen G is less boomy but retains its speed and mid range.

Could also be that you got a caca 650. These things happen. They're not all good. Especially current or recent production.

But if your Piety sucks I'd look inward and find the suck in your system that needs to be exorcised, then banish it to the land of wind and ghosts.

This may be a bit off topic, but what volume do people typically listen to their headphones at? I know I'm a quiet listener, but having decade of experience in the industrial world, I'd be very concerned about hearing damage with the volumes I get at 3:00 on my Piety. I listen to my HD6xx, HD580, HD6xx, and JAR600 at 8:30 on high gain. When I turn it up, I go to up about 11:00. I use a Bifrost MB or or Modi MB as my source. My Gustard X16 feeds a signal to the amp that's 3dB higher than my Modi or Bifrost, so it's even louder without the -3dB attenuation I usually apply.

At 3:00, I'm getting mid to high-90 dB volumes with ~100db peaks when feeding from a Bifrost MB. At 8:30, I'm in the low to mid-70 dB range. At 11:00, I am in the mid-80 dB range, but can peak in the high 80s.

I doubt it, my HD650 produced an agreeable sound with all the amps I used them with so far: Echo, SW51+, now I am rocking them off Musical Paradise MP-301 with KT66 tubes.

I know I am on the quiet listener end of things, but even 11a seems really loud to me on high gain out of the SE of a Bifrost 2. I think anyone in the 3 range either has a broken Piety or some setting wrong digitally.

Sorry if I missed it, but what do you not like about the sound? Using a JAR650OG, it is definitely a warm listen, but I struggle to understand that it could be that objectionable.

Also, what level is your volume at for the SW51 to get comparable loudness with the Piety? I have one, too and would like to get a reference.

I'm still trying to gather my thoughts on the piety, but this is something I can talk about.

Qobuz-> Modi MB (2021) -> Piety low gain->HD600 : Just under 9:00. I turn the knob just far enough to get past the channel imbalance.
    Qobuz->Soekris 1541 ->Piety high gain->HD600: I set the volume knob at 100% and the DAC at -48db.

When I listen to youtube, or other programs I do go to 11:00-12:00 on low gain with the Modi MB.

    I’m also a quiet listener.

Not using an SPL meter so no exact numbers but 8:00 with a 6xx, a little more maybe 8:15-8:30 with a JAR600. ZMF Auteur (original) also between 8:00 and 9:00. Forget what I tried the utopia at. I preferred all of them on high gain but will occasionally use low gain for when I’m just watching videos or playing games and want more fine control over the volume.

I’d actually like to go lower b/c but I’m probably going to have to swap the pot out for that on my particular unit - but only if this doesn’t significantly change the sound.

I’m generally a medium to loud listener, but the volume knob on my Piety, fed from the Modius E XLR, via Cinemag transformers, depends on the source file and era it was produced.

For example my original 80’s CD of Yaz/Yazoo I’m up around 2 o’clock on high gain, and more modern music I’m up around 9-10 o’clock.

    EDIT: HD600

Using Bifrost 2 and 6xx on low gain. depending on dynamic range of the material can be anywhere from 10-3 on volume.
For example newer recordings that are loud as hell (DR6) will be down to 9 or 10 even on low gain. If I play an older album (DR12) I can be as high as 3 on the pot on low gain.
