Insert a long thread through corner hole in the lamination and secure it on the other side with a nut

Holy hell that is such an obvious solution. Thanks @k4rstar ! I'll head to my local nuts and bolts joint tmw. Can't believe that didnt dawn on me since thats exactly how Bottlehead mounts their transformers. I am also incredibly stoked to not have to sit at least 8 feet away from my Yiggy when I enjoy tunes now. She is DEAD silent. :punk:

Yeah Schiit support is likely to come back at you with a send it in response because they'd rather not get sued, but what @k4rstar suggested is what I'd do.

The Y's built-in upsampling filter is hard to beat. It can be done with HQPlayer and Holo DACs (for my taste, anyway), but at a cost in $ and boxes that is considerably higher than the Y+'s cost. In general, one needs guidance, ideally from the Jussi (the HQPlayer developer) to converge on the right HQPlayer settings for a particular DAC and music preferences. I follow various HQPlayer threads, and I've not seen yet filter recommendations for NOS Y+. There might be a magic set that bests MM's filter, but I'd not hold my breath for it. As it is, NOS in Schiit multibit DACs seems to me one of those practical jokes that the Schiit principals like to play on audiophools :p

The humming is usually a sign of DC on your AC line. Which might explain why the lamination de-laminated in the first place from the vibrations. They are stuck together with a special kind of lacquer or I believe, But a bolt and a nut is an easy fix, but does not address possible power line issues.

Another user from a different forum mentioned he did some research and found this is relatively known issue. I honestly have never had any issues with power at my home.
    .........
I have been looking in to my humming transformer online and found out the fins on transformers vibrate and hum. They are supposed to be coated so this will not happen. A YouTube video on building a Yggdrasil from about 5 years ago shows using standoffs and screws with lock tight on the transformers. When I opened my Yggdrasil+, like yours, there were no standoffs.

About a dollar later in parts she is all good. FYI the correct size is 6/32 1 inch screw with 6/32 locking nut. You could get a standoff as well like Schiit sometime uses (the board is designed to accept them), but it would be more work measuring the space and getting the correct height. 20230115_114352.jpg

If anyone here has an old chassis Yggdrasil (ie: Not Yggdrasil+), and the OG A2 boards, could you do me a favour and let me know what the label on your compatible ROM chip says?
Trying to find out what ROM chip is needed to get the OG boards working in the OG chassis at the moment and am struggling to get things working.

It should have a YD218 sticker.

New Yggdrasil+ have an unlabeled universal ROM, thanks to the new front panel control board.

I love how there's actually four Yggdrasil (A1/GS, LIM, MIL, A2/OG) but no one, and I mean no one ever talks about or remembers that the MIL exists. I guess that's just what happens when you try to appease the measurement crowd while also trying to design a good-sounding multibit DAC. Based on impressions and lack of anyone irl buying a MIL for themselves, if someone offered me one, I'd say thank you, keep using my Gungnir A1 and sell it for half MSRP, if I could even get rid of it for that much/little.

Kind of interesting that they produce the MIL. The appeal of it seems to be so very niche. The full-on measurement crowd will (of course) buy something between an e30 and a d90se or su-10, etc, and just call the MIL a waste of money or a scam. Most of the subjectivist crowd would probably do the same, just the other way around. Buy LIM, call the MIL a waste. So it's for people that prefer the sound signature of it vs other Yggdrasil's... meaning that they've been able to demo multiple 2k+ dacs, or it's for people that believe that the cleaner measurements will make a positive difference/ are looking for the type of sound the MIL provides as described in reviews.

I get things like the Hersey and Magnius, I've heard they sell significantly better than their discrete counterparts, but a Yggdrasil made for measurements? ?!?

Just noticed the automatic system for replacing yggyy with Yggdrasil. Nice one, whoever did that :D

That was added long time ago for SEO and for other people lurking or just getting into the hobby and had no idea. I think it also works for gummby" and "bimmby" and I think even "mimmby" (minus the extra m's).

I really considered purchasing the MIL boards since it appears they are about to be discontinued. I am just so curious as to what a bad Yggdrasil sounds like. But then seeing as I am on several loaner lists (Auteur Classic, Lyr+, JAR650B, JAR 800s) plus my never-ending flirtation with repurchasing a Focal Elex means I may have better uses for the money.

The collector side of me nags though. Even the bad, boring and overrated can be worth collecting (See Honus Wagner). The MIL will be rare. Owning both the GS and OG, I kind of want to collect all of the Yggys - well at least their boards and firmware. I've had to replace the analog boards in my OG once - having a backup of my favorite piece of audio equipment seems reasonable to me.

I've kind of wondered if Schiit would consider putting together a Baskin Robbin's 31 Flavors package along side the individual boards, i.e., GS, OG (A2), LIM, and MIL, plus whatever ROM chips are necessary, for a loaner program. Or maybe some of us could throw in some extra boards? I've got A2's just sitting here...

You have A2 boards just sitting there? Not doing anything at all?

Also, if one has an A1, isn't there a firmware update for the newer boards?

GS had new firmware (with A1 boards). You could purchase a ROM chip from Schiit at the time too if you wanted to upgrade your A1 Yggdrasil without purchasing GS. Is that what you mean?
