    A.K.A Closed version of K812...

Maybe they fixed the headphone? Maybe it is an improvement from K812?

So disappointed AKG keeps using single-ended cable on their headphones though.

The K17# and K27# were very "cuppy" sounding compared to their open K#4# counterparts. Will the 800 family do better?... hmm

    hello,

i would really like this to be flagship worthy, i think we need AKG to stay in the game (but i feel the same way about Audio Technica and Beyerdynamic, so what do i know.)

I actually like their single ended cable for regular use. That 3-pin connector is great and AKG always supplies spare cables.

I understand the advantages of a two cable configuration though.

I guess they deserve another chance but with Harman and Cardboard on the reigns my hopes are not very high. Making good target curves is one thing, getting the headphones to sound like that is appearantly another...

From one of Head-Fi posts, it seems AKG did fix treble issue somewhat. That brings my interest....

Now there's a rare case where the closed-back version of a headphone might sound better than its open-back counterpart.

It may be possible that AKG may have fixed the issues on K812 as well without telling anyone else (in this industry, it happens way too much than I'd like to)

Anybody heard these yet? Did not know they existed until today and found this thread.

Nope, but hopefully AKG went crazy again and made a great headphone in the process. A semi-open configuration can give you the low-end energy, you keep the great midrange and the headphone still sounds airy enough in the highs.

If not, buy a K240 DF in good condition and you know what I mean.

I know I am among the very few, but I actually quite liked the K812 when I had the Changstar loaner a couple of years ago. Never had the treble issues that others did, but that may have been partially due to music selection. Would actually love to give them another listen again. My recollection is that I just though that it was way overpriced at $1,499 or even any number relatively close to that. Now, I see good used pairs for around $800 and I am always somewhat tempted. I know a lot of people put them in the league of cans like HD700 so any price is too big as they simply find them awful; but I did not feel that way about K812 (do feel that way about HD 700 though) and at right price would possibly bite (although I would now need to evaluate against the latest competition such as the Elear).

Closed backs generally hold zero appeal for me, but I would nonetheless love to listen to these at some point. But I expect it won't stage as well as the open which is the one area I thought the K812 really excelled at.

I can understand why people want to take out that foam from the back of the driver. In stock form the sound is overdamped and somewhat honky, like it sounds from inside a box. It still gives a hint of what these drivers would be capable of, but the enclosure seems to be suboptimal.

IMHO the K812 sounds a lot better, and its problems would be easier to fix than the K872. Too bad that's an open headphone. For a closed headphone, IMHO there are better choices that cost much less. The K872 would be somewhat competitive around the K812 current price, but reference master quality? Come on... even some of the cheaper AKG headphones sound better.

Is here anyone who could post measurements of the K82 with and without that foam (FR, CSD, [impulse, distortion, spectrogram])?

    My safe bet:

They're gonna take a fucked up sounding headphone and even more fucked up sounding.

Guess you can always mod the socket to the mini XLR 4pin to make them balance.
Even the lemo socket in the k812 can be changed to 4 pin for balance
