You could check out the Steelcase line up. I have an old Leap in the office and am running with a Gesture at home now. Both offer better ass/thigh support (more padding on the seat) and seem to be built sturdier than any Aeron I've tried.

I have the costco knock-off aeron type chair. It was all of $60. Adequate support, can lock the recline if trying to stay awake. Most importantly, my balls are no longer constantly sweaty and sticking to my thighs. Separately, the Ikea Poang may be the most comfortable chair I have ever sat in, especially for the price.

My parents have two of those Costco chairs, I wasn't crazy about it... The front edge of the seat kinda dug into my (admittedly long & lanky) legs. It's probably better in the middle of summer than my Markus tho, but come July/August I'm gonna be sweating my ass off while doing nothing anyway. :p

It's inevitable down here in PR with the humidity... Only thing that's given me some pause to getting a Poang for my new home office. Screw it tho, I'll turn on the AC every time I sit in it during summer if it comes to it!

Recently went to IKEA to see about a Poang for a bit of extra seating for the lounge. I thought it was really nice and super comfy. But In the end I went for one of these:

Solid & simple 3-piece frame, which bolts together quite positively. The good thing for my room is that it's very compact & low overall. Quite nice if you like the mid-century Scandi thing and don't have much space to play with. Apparently it's an IKEA design from the 50s that they have reissued.

bought a herman miller embody during their semi annual sale that just ended, it's super comfortable, great back support. Only cons would be that I wish the back was a little taller or had an optional headrest, and the price is just too damn high, then again that really applies to all of these top of the line ergonomic chairs.

By the way, even though the sale ended, the sales rep at officedesign.com said they'd honor 20% off regular price through 5/20. Sounded like there's definitely room to haggle over the price with them even during none sales times.

Someday I want to get a Herman Miller Eames Lounge Chair (alas, the one pictured is someone's from another forum, not mine):

My wife bought this RH chair / chaise thing for our shared office. I steal it for listening to records or headphone listening, often. Too comfortable, may have fallen asleep in this multiple times. Really works out perfectly for headphones and my basic speaker setup.

I use a Steelcase Leap V2 for my office and home office, have been pretty pleased with it for the last 2 years.

I have one too. To be honest, I think I'd have done better to spend the money on hifi.

Worst thing is that it has been getting repaired since Chennai flood, December 2nd 2015. I guess that might have been a lot quicker and easier in USA than here in India.

Do not keep your chair with the seat under water for a couple of days!

Just recently remove the armrests from my Leap V2. I always felt they were in the way. I like it much more this way except I feel less secure but that's fine.

a belated thanks to this Chair thread as @Hands held my hand twice so I wouldn't get lost on my first and second Ikea experience.

nabbed the Poang (black leather) and ottoman, at home my kiddo enjoyed assembling each product from similarly styled Lego instruction booklets.
all in all, for a tall-guy chair where the neck rest hits properly- a very comfortable and solid buy.
good for putting the feet up and a long listening session.

    thanks all!

Saw this chair at Ashley's furniture in San Diego. Sat on it and was very comfy and supportive. Back rest is perfect height not being higher than my shoulders. Perfect speaker listening chair. I will have to buy this later when I have speakers.

This is getting slightly off topic but has anyone ever sat in one of those 60s era egg chairs? I saw one in a shop in Sedona, AZ about 20 years ago that had some cheap car stereo speakers in it but it actually sounded really good. Probably more due to the shape of the "pod" than the speakers themselves. I think the shop was asking about $3k for it at the time.

My favorite office / task chair that I've tried but can't afford is the Haworth Zody. More like the Steelcase Leap than the Aeron, which for me is a good thing.

I have a new-old-stock Steelcase Think chair which I got in a trade for some IT work with an interior decorator who happened to be a Steelcase reseller. It's a pretty decent choice for tall people since the seat is pretty deep and has some depth adjustment as well. Mine doesn't have the 4-way adjustable arms, though, so I'd definitely recommend that option if picking up one of these new as my only real gripe is that the default one-size-fits-all armrest spacing is a little wide.

I think I am going to hit Ikea this weekend and check out the Poang for a listening chair, though...don't know how I've missed that after going there a dozen times.

So 10 months after starting the thread, I finally bought a chair. Picked up a pretty good condition Steelcase Leap V2 for $275 from a local office liquidator/refurbisher and couldn't be more pleased. I went around to a bunch of showrooms and sat in just about everything except the HM Embody, and the Leap V2 ticked the most boxes for me. Just had to wait for the right price. Cheers for the help.

@fraggler Congrats. I think I have a v1 of the Leap as my desk/ speaker listening chair. Fantastically comfortable and is holding up well.

If someone can suggest a low cost / used chair for watching TV to replace my Poang, please let me know. The Poang is a bit too low for a short guy like me. I am actually using a 30+ year old rattan chair and cushion from pier one when they were a good value, but the leg is on it's last, uh leg.

For me, nothing beats the eames, I've compared it to the knock offs and the finish is just very suboptimal for what is still an $1,800 - $2,300 chair.

The comfort is great and the build quality is second to none, this was taken before the rest of the furniture arrived so excuse the lack of cohesiveness.

    I'm considering the Leap.
How easy is it to keep the cushion clean over a long period?

To the Eames? Incredibly easy, just wipe with a damp cloth.
