The retractable tubes look cool, but are ultimately just another thing that can go wrong with the amp. Maybe servicing the "Orpheus II" will be a new income stream for Sennheiser.

The embedded amps actually make sense in eliminating load capacitance of cable-run, which kinda explains the wide FR claim, and also the generic looking stock cable (instead of ribbon ones like Stax and Koss)

Downside is that now you're stuck with the amp circuit in the headphones. Current will be very limited ala E90, ask any ESP950 user how much better those HPs sound once allowed to breathe with a real amplifier. I like this idea for a budget, entry level stat but not for an attempt at SOTA.

 

I have a sneaking suspicion that they plan(ned?) to make the cable retractable, and the headphone would be hardwired to the entire amp. When you take the headphone out of the box, you can pull it all the way and take it almost anywhere within reasons. Once you're done, I guess putting it back into the box would be fairly straight-forward as the cable would retract and tug away neatly into the amp/box, leaving just a clean place for the headphone to rest.

Sounds like a dream, except... I bet Sennheiser realized after the HDVA600 and HDVD800 that their amps sucked, so tying the headphone to one amp may not be a good idea, and plus they may still want to sell just the headphone separately (which suggests that the whole rig could be costly?).

 

Dude, when you're paying so much, why not rant about the color.
Its like going to buy a Ferrari but they didn't happen to have the color you wanted... so you picked up the next best thing, eg, white...........or silver

i find it hilarious though that in a $55000 flagship they just chucked a ess9018 in there. They should of just left the dac out like the original, or hired mike moffat to come do it . (AHAH)

don't get me wrong, I am sure it sounds amazing, sennheiser doesnt f**k around with this kinda stuff. If I wasn't a college student I'd probably buy one.

that being said, nothing jude says can be taken seriously from his previous videos/opinions. he is a hyper through and through. Yet again another video from him claiming better then sliced bread.
