I worked for big chain computer repair company for one year out of college. Then taught high school for a few years. I finally decided to open my own computer repair company. January will be my 15th year.

I'm a Lutheran pastor. I started a congregation on the west side of Chicago and have been serving there for about five years. It's challenging but rewarding work. I meet a ton of interesting people and have a lot of interesting experiences. It's hard for me to imagine another job that's more wide-ranging than religious leadership. People invite me into their lives, and I see everything from the highest highs to the lowest lows of the human experience.

Are you a US citizen? I picked up the position as I was getting bored! There is only so much "retirement" one can tolerate...tried it for 7 months almost and hated it.

Corporate attorney, focusing mostly on technology transactions and life sciences (biotech) company financings and corporate governance.

Began my college education in computer engineering. Spent hours trying to compile a program one night, and the sole problem ended up being a single stray comma. That was the last straw for me.

Switched over to the technical writing program, with minors in business and management. Decided to use the degree as a foundation for grad school to give myself greater upward mobility.

Law school and my current practice were/are great fits for me considering my hobbies and educational background. Ironically, instead of spending hours searching for pesky commas in Visual Studio, I now do the same in contracts and SEC filings.

LOL! That's one of the things I really liked about software development. Different strokes and all that.

I grew up in another era.

I knew that I could get a job at the steel mill that my Dad worked at. Turned out that I did not weigh enough to work in the mill but they would give me an office job. I was never so disappointed. I turned that down. Ended up that Bain Capitol bought the mill and (legally:() took most of the retirement and health insurance fund before putting the mill out of business. So in the long run my big disappointment was actually good luck.

I decided to find someplace where I could work my way up. Started out as a Stock Clerk at 18 years old and ended up as a Systems Analyst (IT). I never went to college, but the job below mine required a doctorate o_O in lieu of experience. I got lucky. I retired after 40 years.

There was a lower weight limit for steel mill workers? What's up with that?

I don't remember what they required for weight, but I was too light at 120 pounds. They had a lot of heavy physical tasks at the steel mill.

Been trying it for about 13 years and love it. I can't say that I never enjoyed my job[-s], I did [sometimes], but I can say that I never actually wanted one. If it hadn't been for stuff like food...

One of my degrees is in Computer Science and I still hated all that crap. Effing syntax! That's why I went into Systems Engineering. I get to write the system requirements, wait for someone else to write the code, and then I test it in a lab. If the code doesn't work right I send it back to the software guys and let them figure it out.
