    Yes and yes. Good stuff!

One of my favorite films of all time:
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111341/?ref_=nv_sr_1

    Running time: 450 minutes :p

Also, if you count Fassbinder's Berlin Alexanderplatz as "a film in 13 parts and a prologue" instead of a miniseries---it originally aired on TV as a miniseries but was intended to be seen as a film---then that's roughly 939 minutes long.

@MuppetFace - which Raidho's? And what do you think of them compared to other speakers you've heard? (Feel free to ramble. :))

I see that you've stayed in the academic community. I decided not to.

How's it working out for you? I always found the academia to be very toxic mental health wise (totally unlike working in a startup, hurrdurr).

    The C1.1s

Keep in mind three key points:
I got them for a significant discount.
I like ribbon tweeters when they're done well; Raidho does them well.
I needed something small and stand mounted.

With that in mind, the C1.1s are exceptional little things. The sound they produce is surprisingly room-filling given their size, and they work well with a wide variety of genres, something that is crucial me. For instance other monitors may sound more intimate, have a better timbre with strings, or sound more convincing when recreating vocals. However for their size and what I paid for them, nothing else could really compare as a complete package IMHO.

If not for the discount, I'd probably get a pair of Joseph Audio Pulsars. They endeared themselves to me, and in all honesty I'd have a rather difficult time justifying the huge price spike for the C1.1s at MSRP.

Eventually I'd like to get some full sized speakers. In which case I'd either go for the Sony SS-AR1, which as a whole package---sound, pedigree, looks---are pretty much my favorite among "traditional" floor standing models I've experienced, or I'd go for open baffle / semi open baffles. I'd definitely look into NOLA or Donald North's Sequence speakers.

Alright: What are your hopes and dreams? If that’s a bit too broad, how about…
    - Place(s) you’d like to visit
    - Person you’d like to meet
    - Personal goal, self-improvement

    @MoatsArt I saw that! You can't fool me, Sir Deletes-a-Lot. :p

Insofar as you exist, you're good!
'Badness,' to many (and to me), is seen as a perversion of good.
So while you may be capable of bad things, the fact that you ARE---that you have potential to love---is good!

As with any kind of job, it really depends on what you're looking to get out of it. As far as advancement goes... academia is rough. Everyone wants tenure. The demands just to stay afloat are taxing enough---the old "publish or perish" routine---but when you factor in the fierce competition for the highest positions, it gets pretty brutal.

Becoming a tenured professor would be nice, sure, but I'm not depending on it. I have other paths in mind if I get burnt out, but for the time being I'm cool. I've found a key to maintaining my mental health is to be happy with the act of teaching itself; I had a student early on tell me that they were grateful for my course, and that honestly made all the difference as hokey as it sounds.

    I adore what I teach.
The subject matter's nice too. *ba dum tiss*

My hopes and dreams, right now, are to stay healthy and go about doing what I feel like I was put on this Earth to do.

I'd like to visit the Northwest US again. Seattle and Portland are two of my favorite cities, and some day I'd like to live there. I've got friends in Europe and Asia I'd like to visit, too.

Person I'd like to meet? They know who they are.

As for self improvement, I'd like to be less materialistic. More understanding of others. More punctual. I'd like to work on getting over my extreme anxiety and PTSD.

Yes and yes! Wow. Most of the people that I know who have read The Master and Margarita consider it to be a pretty wonderful book. It is firmly on my lifetime-best-books list. I think you are the first non-Russian person I've "met" who has watched the film. Curiously, my friend who sent me the DVDs is really surprised at the interest in the book outside of the Eastern bloc.

I am very much not a film person. These days, I don't even have a TV. But I recall Das Boot, which was split up into TV episodes but would have had a pretty long total runtime.

I have settled in India, and (ducks as the stones fly in my direction) really dislike the stuff that the film industry makes here, especially the music, which is horrible. I have the impression that runtimes of three hours are not unusual. I sat through one, in London, once, with an Indian-origin ExGF: it was not a pleasant experience. I am not talking about stuff like Satyajit Ray's films. I too loved the Apu trilogy.

Naw, I'm taking my dear sweet time cuz... it's really short. I've pretty much done everything but the bosses, tho.

My build is nothing fancy: quality build using the Lothric Greatsword (the one with built-in lightning) and Sunset Armor set.

@perkele Okay, I've officially finished everything now. The end boss was supposed to be really difficult, but I ended up beating her on the first try. Whoops.

Impressive. Back when I lived in NYC I would frequent all the art house and avant garde movie theaters. The time I saw Murnau's Sunrise set to a live ambient rock band was probably the greatest film going experience I've had. I also saw live performances (w/ Alloy Orchestra) of Josef von Sternberg's great silents like The Docks of New York and The Last Command.

I dig Mizoguchi (last saw The Story of the Last Chrysanthemums which was one his best) though I prefer Ozu and Naruse from that period. I'm not a huge Italian Neorealism fan (I thought Ozu's depression era films did it better and far earlier) though I love Antonioni, who isn't really known as a neorealist. Nights of Cabiria is also my favorite Fellini.

In terms of the French New Wave my favorite is Jacques Rivette (plus Marker, early Resnais, and Robbe-Grillet if those count). I had the fortune of seeing Out 1 Spectre ealier this year.

I also love Tarkovsky, and The Mirror and Andrei Rublev were two of the best theater going experiences. I've yet to warm up completely to Tarr, though his films are extremely impressive aesthetically.

Wong Kar Wai (along with Kieslowski) was a gateway drug for me. I agree with your underrated and overrated picks, and I'd add Terence Davies and Jose Luis Guerin to the underrated list.

My obsession lately have been with avant garde cinema, favorites being Jonas Mekas, Bruce Conner (one of the members here uses a still from his film as his avatar), Stan Brakhage, Nathaniel Dorsky, and Andrew Noren (so amazing and rare that I skipped out in the middle of a screening of Satantango to catch one of his films).

Do you identify as a furry, or is Luxembourg just a character (and not a fursona)?
