To futher explain...buyer was high bidder since Tuesday. Last night someone outbid then retracted said bid, other bidder now high again - no change. This afternoon, auction ended and the seller claims he was notified he was not the high bidder and purchased another unit.
I was under the impression they can’t cancel once they win. They can only dick around with not paying. Did the buyer request cancellation from you or eBay?
That is exactly what happened @Gaspasser (funny handle btw).
I saw your post about bid cancellations @spwath, it is only getting more popular. I think they see how much they need to outbid the high bidder and move on.
I can see both sides here. If I was informed that I was outbid and had no previous experience with someone outbidding and then retracting I might move on too. I guess the only safe way to do that is to retract your own bid before you move on once you're outbid.
I can see that @DigMe. If they were the high bidder again, they should have also received an email. I always watched closely the auctions I was bidding on. I cancelled per request and offered it to the next bidder in line. We'll see if he wants my Rega Turntable.
Yeah, but if he had already moved on before the other guy retracted.. it’s nit a good situation for either party. In a real life auction if you are outbid they’re not gonna come back to you later on and say you weren’t outbid after all. The real dirt bag here is the guy who retracted.
