I mean, if you're going to do that just buy a fanless NUC or something.

I've seen a couple other totally fanless prebuilts and cases as well, ultimately it's that or massive open loop cooling for silence, but it makes so much sense to start with an ultra-low-tdp CPU and ssds.

I'm from the "massive open loop" school but that loop costs as much as another pc, and a good one at that.

I was never competent enough to consider such a massive open loop but I always admired the builds. A rather quiet gaming PC under full load must be a huge blessing. I was thinking about NUCs as well, just unsure about the power requirements and various tweaks I need to consider (e.g. PSU, but I try to avoid most nervosa). Other than that they seem a safe choice.

I use an i7 Intel one as a Roon server.

The PSU that comes with it is plenty for the stuff inside, anything more than kb & mouse I'd just use a powered hub for peace of mind.

Haven’t found a pump I like having on the same circuit as my audio stuff.

I did an i3 6100 underclocked undervolted fanless build in a dr zaber sentry and it’s great.

@zerodeefex I have a D5 Vario (DC with potentiometer) and between the PC's PSU, the PC's UPS, the DAC's UPS and the mains conditioner on the amp I couldn't hear a difference when I was running only the pump to bleed the loop.

I guess the best is an RD-30 on isolation transformer, but I've never needed to.

I thought I was the only one, crazy enough, to attempt running <two> separate desktop PSU's... going to their own Mains circuits; one for: Pumps/Fans/HDD's and the other: for everything else, on the Mobo.

Though the primary PC's PSU is also on a UPS, secondary one's going straight to Mains.
Perhaps, I didn't think this through enough & need to "filter" the Pump/Fans' PSU via another UPS. #PowerNervosaOver9000 ~_~

Nah, is all on a single PSU now.

Used to be separate because the Iwaki RD-30 is a 15-24v pump and DC-DC step ups are usually crap, but that was not a pc PSU anyway, just a varivolt power brick.

ok, you know what I did? I skipped the NUC and bought a RBPI3 and the Alllo Digone SPDIF/BNC out, also to avoid buying any current Intel platform. Will set it up tommorrow if it arrives and listen for a few weeks until I go for a PSU - nothing crazy though.

Iirc you need some really premium linears to beat the iFi iPower.

In any case, have fun playing with your pie :D

looking forward to it =D, and how it improves upon my PC. I have my eyes on the iFi iPower already.

    Thanks for all your suggestions!
