This video also corrected my assumption that a 250sq ft apartment was huge for Japan.

The second japanese guy is the only one that I would consider mentally ill (ie, he wants good sound but those huge speakers should sound like crap in such a small room, I'll not even going to mention the "15 years without buying clothes" statement or living in a 250sq ft apartment to save money for audio equipment...)

I've listened to speakers close but not quite that big in a small bedroom and the sound was top notch. You must treat the room correctly but it was very good. I get the power stuff but that is a bit extreme. Hey lots of weird hobbies out there where folks go a bit off the deep end. Then there are lots 'o cats people, hahaa! Mental Illness, NOPE

I get it, but the point is that unlike the first guy, who has a dedicated listening room and a big house, the second guy's listening room is...his entire house, he has to move the couch to open his refrigerator (1/2)

Instead of those 100k monster speakers, he could have bought some top notch 10k bookshelf/small tower speakers, and get a bigger house and new clothes. I'm the first one who wants a badass $$ hifi system, but damn, house and clothes go first (2/2)

Well there is no lock on genius. No I would not spend 100k on speaker if he did that, and yes you can get lots of the performance in smaller speakers, but hey if the guy is happy....................that is all that matters. Let's move on.

I saw a bit of myself in both of those guys, so I sympathize. Just a good reminder to be aware of the addictive/obsessive tendencies of an otherwise rewarding, fun hobby - like all hobbies, really...

Also the most meaningful difference I could glean from this small snapshot of their lives was that one had a much more money than the other. In other words, the rich one could save more face thanks to the bigger house, former career. Meaning that if they were of equal means and status, they would probably be roommates in that 250sq ft apartment and maybe split the cost of that utility pole!
