To clarify. This is a local audio chain I come across fairly often in various malls, so pretty reputable. I know brick and mortar stores have to charge more for overhead etc, but how much could shipping and taxes have added to the cost?!

Take the cost of having a set imported yourself, shipping and tax included, then add 50%?
