Sometimes it can be obvious that they're using an earlier generation tape than that equivilant 80s era CD. 80s era catalog titles can often have things ike tape warble too.

But all that tends to be negated by the fact that the remasters tend to be more compressed and use a delta sigma ADC for conversion.

Check out the hi-res remasters of Tom Petty’s catalog, he allowed them to be mastered with full dynamics. Similarly check out the “unlimited” remasters of Paul McCartney’s catalog (unlimited in this place meaning no limiting on dynamics as well).

The experiment is over. It seems the moderators were testing some people. Do you miss the dislike option? Some people actually liked that option. Oh well.

Yeah, it still had some limitations, but.. I am generally believing the benefits of downvotes.

They didn't really make the Lyr 3 in response to the MCTH. Lyr 3 was in development for a couple years before anyone really knew what Massdrop was up to.

@Cspirou Of course you're right. But release timing was too close (for me) not to believe they have no consideration of MCTH. In my experience with developments (in other area), milestone/event timing was often flexible to reflect market status. Anyway, I don't think this speculation is evidenced well. 70% for fun (and a little sarcasm)

It’s been teased before, including by Moffat. Seems like it was planned to ship a month or two ago, but dates will always shift. Those comments were around a year ago now, though.

You'll get it faster if you just order and wait. Card won't get charged until it ships anyway. The viable alternatives are much more expensive anyway.

That's not just poor presentation, that's borderline misleading how they have it presented. If they got rid of the slashed out $1,399 it'd be way clearer, but their way makes it look like it's at a 90%+ early order discount.

$Chord was always high. In the pre-DAC age of hifi, I used to look at their power amps in the hifi shops in much the same way as one looks at film stars. Of course, back then, I was even less aware that there was more to life than big heat sinks.

Real talk, I was more focused on mid-fi stuff I could maybe afford from 2006-2014, pretty much ignored big boy talk apart from reading/watching the odd review. Having said that, seems like Edifier's making good use of Stax at least, which is something.

Yup. definitely. They know how to handle paying customers for high end products. And I also agree that Stax is "reliably" lazy to refresh their products. lol. That's good thing for sure!

Unfortunately I was divorced from 009 two yrs ago mainly due to tonality and amp nervosa.. (This is why I am biased toward this news... oh well.)
