    im sure some swap in carts for different needs, but I'm willing to bet setup makes frequent swaps more trouble than its worth. I tend to find something I like and stick with it.

    I think you are better off spending the money on one cart instead of multiple carts until you get into the ultra high end.

    I saw a survey at another site, and most had <=5 carts, but a number had 10-20. I thought, "My God... carts can't be like headphones, can they?!"

    It's easier if you have a tonearm with a removable headshell like the SL-1200 or its clones. One use case where I think it makes sense is if you listen to a lot of early mono records. Some Audio Technica guys also like to run a given cartridge body and swap styli. In general I'm also in the find something good and stick with it camp

    I can swap headshells easily with my unit. I have 2 carts: Ortofon 2M Red and Shure V15 Type III.
