Thinking about it, no duh, but I feel power delivery doesn't matter as much for BA IEMs as DD. None of the usual improvements IME. Mar 26, 2024 at 8:17 PM

My regular home setup is poop, though I do get to demo nice gear sometimes: Bifrost Multibit G5>Micro iDSD (preamp)>HP-V1>HP-3/X00 Ebony. Yes my amp is a porta tube hybrid, haha. I've got a G1217 Sunrise III on loan, but don't count that as "mine".

Demo was Micro iDSD (DAC) or Chord Hugo (DAC)>ZDT Jr.>HP-3 cf. TH-900, Susvara.

Pros of rocking low impedance biodynas is that they don't need a lot of ampage, though they do benefit from nicer gear upstream (which is about the main reason I'm looking at the ZDT Jr and dreaming of OPT SETs, haha).

For those using flat plate couplers, have you ever heard an odd whooshing hiss showing up as massive, easily movable 11~15kHz+ spikes?

@Biodegraded That explains a lot. I was managing to get close approximations of Marv and cskippy's stuff using pink noise, so I figured I might have been on to something. Either I'm forgetful as hell or I just missed that, hah!

And yeah, I'm not going full measurebator here, just establishing a baseline to dick around with mods to check my subjective impressions against ;)

        Thanks!

Heh - I was really meaning you're supposed to listen to the music rather than the pink noise. But have a look at the 'Measurement setups - post your rig!' thread; some good info on settings in there, eg @philipmorgan has a link to his settings and procedure. Don't fuss it to much until you get a proper mic though, you'll have to change them.

Yup! This was just a quick-n-dirty sorta approach to establish a baseline with front filters and all that jazz. Listening impressions always come first, but I'm not very confident about my ability to identify specific problem areas going off subjectives alone— need a bit more practise there— which is why I randomly felt like assigning some numbers to what I was hearing, shit approximations as they may be :))

@Torq Thank you! Sorry, had trouble telling things apart in their catalogue.

Starting from there before figuring out if I want to go with something nicer down the line. Might get around to getting my grandpa's old stuff...

I'm guessing that $500 spent on a DAC is going to be more satisfying that $500 spent on a table/cart combo. (To clarify the above).

@bazelio I've got a decent DAC (pretty happy with my Bifrost Multibit so far!), but I have a few LPs I inherited from my grandpa that have sentimental value, plus I'm getting a new game soundtrack box set because... I'm a fan. Haha.

Figured I might invest in a basic turntable just to get some play out of it, see if I can settle in with analogue.

I was looking for comparisons with other cans on different sites, read the SBAF preview thread for the nth time for measurements, then noticed the ports on the pair Marvey pictured. Looked up other photos online to confirm, realized my pair might have been a tiny bit bassier than intended, and then took an X-Acto to solve it :P
