@DigMe I barely managed to get through a week avoiding major spoilers and even then yeah, it was easy to tell how things would end (in a general way) from memes.

Memes are good but damn do they force you to see stuff asap at risk of getting spoiled. Haha.

just hooked up some old m-audio monitors to mine via lyr 3. enjoyed hints of multibit bliss, but also suffered some ear stabbing sibilance. hope to move on soon to some decent speakers and likely, room treatment.

Why have I waited this long to use separate DAC/speakers for video editing and music? Independent volume control is a game changer.

In general I'm a big fan of dialing in your computer peripherals, good desk, good chair, good posture, good screen, good mouse and mousepad, good keyboard, right lightning and of course the sound system. I spend a lot of time at my computer both working and for leisure so it's totally worth it.

I roasted for years and used a number of methods including the 2 mentioned above. Behmor is great. If you want to do it very cheaply it can be as simple as a wok and stove.

@westernmac I hate grassy coffee. In the US I probably would have just run to the grocery store and settled for something decent but not the freshest off the shelf. In China I’d just be screwed.

True - it's free to identify as an audiophile; without friends or gear you'll just be a sad one. And yeah the industry is pretty screwed up. I don't know who Mark Levinson is, nor have I heard his gear, but I am inclined to disagree with his ideas about product valuation. If I saw one of his amps at a garage sale I'd totally pick it up though.

The high end side of things for audio gets real interesting especially when it comes to 2 channel. Sky is the limit, literally. I get two reactions to headphones from the 2 channel guys, surprise a headphone can cost so much or they wondering if there is an even more expensive headphone.

I try to separate audiophile, as a positive thing, from audiophool, and all the ridiculous stuff that goes with being one.

Any lover of music and at-least-half-decent sound is an audiophile.

This is true, though I haven't had much luck finding a good speaker selector at a decent price ($100-200 range would be fine, but all the high quality ones I'm finding are $300-500+, at which point I'd rather just buy another amp).

4412A's. Got them right where I wanted them then noticed a bit of HF image smearing; one of the tweeter's magnets was misaligned and tore the voice coil when I opened it up, so now I'm short a tweeter till the replacement comes in. I'll be a long couple of days, they sounded great.

I'd say the HD600 are lacking in bass emphasis, but not lacking in bass (unless used with the wrong amp). The right amp with a good power supply will wake their bass right up, both in impact and presence. I used to think their bass was pretty weaksauce until I heard them on the right amp (Mjo2 or MCTH+LPS). TBH there are times when I wouldn't mind a bit more bass quantity, but I'm happy with the control and slam.
