They are very different. Hd650 and HD800 (even with mods) are complimentary rather than exclusionary.

Money made it exclusionary. Maybe I'll get hd650 again some time, or hd6xx or 58x

+1 what @TwoEars said. FWIW the HD800 sounded more immediately impressive out of my modest stuff, but the HD650 may be better for general-purpose use.

OK, so I love the HD800s. And yes, that is partly because I am deaf to high frequencies. If it were not for my worsening earsight, I wonder: would I still be mid-fi moist with my HD600s?

If they weren't HD800S, I wouldn't think they were stolen. No one would sell their HD800S for effectively $650.

That is a ridiculous deal... having said that, I don't think I could do HD800S as my only pair. I think @EagleWings still wants to sell his HD650 if you find yourself crawling back.

I’m gonna call it right now: mistake. I’m on HD6X0 number four, it’s not leaving.

I currently have my hands on a 6XX, but I need the 600 in my life instead. Regardless, the HD600/650/6XX will always be a relevant headphone.

Even if it was a mistake to let them go, it wasn't a mistake to buy the hd800S. I can always sell them at a profit and get hd650 back. Right now though, I have no money left.

That makes it pretty young then! I won't comment on the differences, I've only tried the S once and, yeah, that hearing of mine. But unless you are going to be a manic gear swapper, you could keep this for ever.
