usb-c is just a mess across the board, there's no firm standard or compatibility between phone manufacturers and one cable or converter which works in one phone might not work in another. Meanwhile I know that 3.5 will work every time in all phones that have it. If the industry wants to replace 3.5 with usb-c they should at least get their shit together and make it uniform across the board.
I do both. Have a few dongles (less fun than the word suggests) for my Pixel 2 XL that sound fine and in the car I use a A&K XB10 for bluetooth. Somehow I survive. Somehow.
Bout to jump on the 6T and debating myself what to for the headphone jack. I carry around my UE18+ everywhere but can get it swapped to the new connector and use bluetooth.
Apple dongle works quite well for my IEMs. Sounds great with my Acoustunes. Can't speak for similar USB-C options as I haven't tried them. I do prefer this option over Bluetooth though currently I only have a Shure Bluetooth cable.
My new phone has a headphone jack, but can I jump in with a question on this subject? Is the audio output to the usb of a jackless phone analogue or digital? I'd sort-of suspect that it would be analogue, but that sounds like some complex switching inside.
Basically I haven't a clue.
I've been looking at this. https://fiio.com/btr3 Can connect to my Pixel 2XL directly via usb-c or via LDAC bluetooth. Heard it at RMAF, seemed clean enough for my cheap ass sony XBA-H3.
I use Radsone EarStudio ES-100 with my Pixel XL (LDAC bluetooth). I think it sounds better than the headphone jack w/ my Andromeda. The thing is impressively small, which I find to be convenient.
