@atomicbob, I'm probably reading the specs wrong, but is the input impedance 680ohms? Is it a bit high for Yggdrasil A2 (that can handle 600ohms now)?
Look at test circuit #3 on the spec sheet a 600R load was used to obtain the input impedance.

Most preamps, amps with volume controls have between 10K ~ 100K input impedance. With 1:1 turns ratio that will reflect back to the same input impedance on the Jensen transformer presented to the Yggdrasil A2.

Ah, I see. So an A1 Yggdrasil (300ohm) would be fine also?

Unless you plan on sending DAC outputs to a pro-audio component with 600R input such as Teletronix LA2A or Universal Audio 1176, you will be fine.

I'm looking for multichannel I2S -> SPDIF solution. Preferably a single chip like the ak4101. Are you aware of any projects out there that can do this?

The multichannel isn't really for home theater though. It's for an active 3-way with FIR filter. I want something like the miniDSP HD, but with digital outputs so I can use my own DACs.

Maybe there's already some professional digital processor out there that does it.

The most crucial things about a disc transport that are often overlooked: 1) clean digital out (duh, Mike knows this)
        2) Error resilience! Check the Stereophile measurements for CD reviews. reading big gaps consistently is huge, and is what really differentiates CDPs.

I'm sure they're working on other phono stages, but I seriously doubt they'd discontinue the Mani when it sells so well. I bet it's just the parts shortage that's keeping it out of stock.

I can barely tolerate Spotify at 320 kbps ... and that's just in comparison to all the other lossy streaming sources ... so I'd expect it's simply a case of Ogg at 160 kbps just not being up to modern MP3/AAC encodings at similar bit-rates.

Think yourself lucky - persuading Spotify to stream to my living room Pi entails Stream What You Hear - which transcodes it on the fly to PCM or various bitrates of MP3. Although it's only for background, I should really test some of the alternatives to see which sounds the least bad...

I am a fan of AJ’s work too. Steve G has a video interview with him about the Debut 2.0 series, and I got the sense that almost all of the modifications were about aesthetics and alleviating customer nervosa about the rear port. So not really aimed at audiophiles anymore. Bummer!

I figured you would want to roll your own since you want to enable DSD.

If modding the gen 2 board does this mean you are going to remove the USB port and controller?

        Scott Kramer
No... there's a 4 resistor array connecting the 4 i2s lines from the output of the USB chip to the ak4490's, just pull that and tap directly in. Not that destructive at all... can jumper the USB back in. There's some logic detecting USB, but already figured that out with the Moby. Cakewalk. DSD uses the same i2s, it's just a matter of setting a pin high/low on the AK4490's.
