    The Sony DAPs with their Class D-ish amps and no DAC stage are what's got me thinking about this.

    Sony used to have a line of amps like that. They ditched them. In theory, should work great.

    @Poleepkwa - Hypex has a digital input, but I thought that it still used a DAC for D/A conversion and then uses an analog Class D amp. Putzey has mentioned that he doesn't like direct digital amps.

    @Cspirou I misunderstood. You are correct, the Hypex uses some AKM DACs. Not sure about the Dante's, probably the same. I remember Sharp had some direct drive digital amp.
