Busy, long-term goals in sight and improving my cooking skills. A good risotto is worth all the preparation. Tomorrow ratatouille. Mar 26, 2024 at 5:53 PM

A fake smile is a badge of honour after years of grinding in hospitality and service. You survived, smile, do your thing and then leave...

In NL the fake smile is not as important as in the U.S. The key is to always come across as friendly and charming. So when you visit NL, you might be surprised...

I always liked Burger King, but haven't been there in at least a decade. I always liked Wendy's too (spicy chicken in particular), but when I went back last year it was a huge disappointment.

After years of OO, learning FP via Haskell was quite a mind-bender for me. I like the "pureness" of it, it forces you to adopt an FP mindset.

Also the syntax is pretty nice. Reads like a mathematical function. There are better places to learn about Monads though.

Most of the server-side systems were written in either Java (now, maybe, a JVM-based language) or C#. Many apps are Python-based, including my favorite editor (Sublime).

C is great for just about anything, but there are lots of snares & traps to watch out for. Best kept for low-level or time-critical stuff.

@DF Ubuntu used to have questionable designs decisions with some prior releases (~2010-2013) that were more of a gimmick. I believe there were numerous complaints about that. That is not to say that current Ubuntu isn't great. Mint has been using Ubuntu/Debian base with improvements in practicality and consistency. Like always, opinions and experiences might vary.

I started with breathing. First about 30 seconds. Later I added another 30 seconds and followed up by closing my eyes to increase focus. I devised a personal mantra that keeps me calm and it helps me to visualise feelings and thoughts. The best part is (takes a while though) learning to control the flow and then emptying your mind. I always aim to end with an empty mind...
