not sure how you define great or cheaper, but my $220 total cost phone and IEMS used sound remarkably good with UAPP vs $1300 used desktop setup. Close in sound, nope, not way far off though, but on the value scale the portable solution is kickass!
You're right; to a certain point portable solutions are great. I do feel that diminishing returns starts to kick in very quickly though! I would spend in increasing increments whenever I upgraded my portable gear, whereas with desktop gear it feels like I get more bang for my buck.
Though that may just be stuff like the Yggdrasil being very good value.
Oh, hopefully good things :) we're alike then! I do like to poke my head back into the IEM/CIEM realm to check out the newest flavors, but right now it seems like there's a sort of technological ceiling that's preventing that segment from reaching new heights. Perfect time to explore the desktop world, I suppose!
