I happen to like Steely Dan, and I don't disagree. I don't find the snark and cheek objectionable, nor do I think it's really witty or sharp...just love the playing.

It's like meme, but more grown up!

I'm still slightly confused by what the word meme means these days though.

I know what the word means generally, but not sure what Mr. Cowboy means here. And I also love the Dan. But I am old.

Try 10CC and Queen. Tropes galore and I love it. You want more tropes, go for Muse. Matt Bellamy is the trope master of the Proggy side of Rock and loving it...

Their lyrics are often atrociously cheesy. I like some of the music and it’s well recorded and well played.

A student bought me Gaucho a few years ago. Like others have said, the musicianship is fantastic, but it doesnt work for me. The vocals...eek.

I don't think I appreciated Steely Dan enough to read the thread, much less contribute to it. Probably... maybe... about equal to Eagles.

As I said on the threat, they became these creeper NY'ers who moved to South Beach when they came out with Two Against Nature. Might as well them living in West Palm Beach.

Come to think of it, that is not as bad as it sounds. At least I remember the band name! I'm sure that many such are lost in withered brain cells, let alone their music.
