Basically thinks EQ'd $50 Shure's are as good as $2000 stuff.

LOL! I know how this sounds, but I like the $9 Skull Candy Jibs better than some $2000 stuff. And that's w/o any EQ. It is what it is. That said, I'm no IEM expert.

All that said, I bet a fully custom IEM will fit me better than Jibs and whatever. I'm just not that into IEMs either.

I mean I'm sure I can find a $2000 pair that's crap compared to porta pros. And I have no doubt EQ can make something cheap sound amazing.

But I'm doubtful that it's going to sound better than the HD-800 with EQ.

Anyway, if he found nirvana at $50 then more power to him

Pretty much this, yeah. I actually envy some people who can find no wrong with $5 earbuds, leaves them with a lot more money for other crap. That said, I still get emotional listening to certain songs over my cruddy laptop speakers— higher fidelity and performance is nice, very nice in fact, but music you love is still music you love.

With IEM’s this is very plausible. The SE112 was not nearly as comfy as the SE215 though. Dude seems bit excited.

Good luck measuring them and repeating the same tonality on a live human ear. Especially in the treble.

I agree with him that the Harman target curve is pretty much ideal. Disagree that "minimal distortion" covers *all* other relevant technicalities. I have an open mind, but experience says otherwise.

The Harmon curve is for headphones, not iems. It may be great for some folks, but definitely not everyone using iems.

Also, FR is a great starting point. A perfectly EQ'd crappy iem is often a better experience than a technically superior earphone with odd spikes and dips. That doesn't make a low-end iem into a high-end one, though. It makes for an excellent low-end iem.

There is an in-ear Harmon target as well.

I'd say the writer has discovered he prefers DD timbre over in-ear electrostatic (and probably BA too)...
