I think the bass is muddy in the Forte III relative to the RF 7. But the RF 7 is quite a bit brighter. Bass on the RF 7 sounds pretty nice and tight though.

On that video the Forte III sounds more boxy too. But way better balanced than the RF 7. Guess one can't have it all.

Uh...is that sarcasm or am I missing something?
edit: I mean I can hear some tonal shifting and whatnot, but wouldn't any sonic differences be filtered by the mic being used etc.?

No. I mean what I said. My wife said the same thing. Her words were that the Forte III was more "full" (in a weird way), and the RF 7 was more detailed in the bass, but was "shouty". I agree 100%. These are relative differences with the same mic. These are not subtle differences. They are pretty in your face guys.

I would have taken the RF 7, but the brightness might become overbearing over time.

I want speakers that sound good with most material. Not just Jazz and Classic. Or just Rock and Pop. That is bullshit.

I definitely hear what you're saying, but the Forte could also be said to sound like it has the "cupped hands" artifact. I definitely prefer the Forte myself from this clip & I defer to your experience & knowledge, but I honestly don't trust much of what I hear from a recording of speakers. I imagine it's because I don't know what to listen for...very interesting nonetheless.

Mids - 0:58 to 1:13 great on both systems.
Highs - 1:14 to 1:33 bright on the RF 7, nice on the Forte.
Bass & Lower Mids - 1:35 to 2:00 - well defined on the RF 7, boomy and confused on the Forte.

I trust what I hear on a relative comparison. Furthermore, I have not heard the Forte live. But I have the RF 7, and they are as bright in this recording as they are in real life. But the bass is indeed well defined.

I perceive passive aggressiveness: "I defer to your experience & knowledge" (being sarcastic), "I imagine it's because I don't know what to listen for" (being sarcastic again), "I honestly don't trust much of what I hear from a recording of speakers" (disregard and minimization).

I don't like that. If you want to comment and provide further insight with your experience, then please do so. I was very interested in the Fortes for a while. But be careful about being sarcastic and minimize. That's not what you would do to a friend.

Sincerely sorry if I gave that impression...hazards of internet communication. Absolutely no sarcasm...I meant it.

If I'm listening to something live, I have a clue what to listen for. Not the most experienced listener by any means, but I can usually highlight some anomalies, or peaks that bother me.

Listening to a recording of speakers is something I have zero experience with...I have no idea how it translates, how much of a difference the mic, positioning, SPL (how closely do they need to be matched?) come into play. That's where my distrust comes from.

I meant the above as a compliment. Having heard the RF7 yourself probably helps, at least it would give me something to correlate what I'm hearing.

I honestly never would have thought there was much of value in a recording of speakers until your post. That's why I initially asked if you were being sarcastic...it was true curiosity.

My bad for not trying to be more clear since you don't know where I'm coming from.

Don't worry. Yes. It's not the same thing as the real deal. But it gives one some idea, specially if two speakers are recorded the same way and one is familiar with one. IMO.
