Well all that aside I'm still for 4.4mm because it seems like it's a good compromise in form factor, that's the one decent thing in this whole mess if it becomes widely adopted.
HD800 has been discontinued since August 2018, word just takes forever to travel on that. No price change on the HD820 and HD800S. XLR cable is now an accessory option.
That cable will cost near enough the same to make as the new one. The $300 for a separate cable is daylight robbery and not representative of it’s true cost.
HD820 came with a 1/4", 4.4mm and XLR but they have removed the XLR. 820 and 800S now both have the same cable options. Aftermarket cables for 800 series ain't cheap, those connectors are pricey.
According to the photos, I apparently snuck in during the weird yoke/cable interregnum last month. My 800S has the new yokes and they gave me a coupon code for a free XLR cable! Yissss.
