Is there any consensus as to what pulls a headstage outside of your head (ie. in front of your face) in a source? I'm feeding M9xx and SR15 Apr 21, 2019

both through same amp (Pure II+) and the SR15 has noticeably more out of head head/sound stage.

HD800 tries hard, but, in the end it is your brain that accomplishes the miracle. Your part in the process is to forget that you are wearing headphones.

Fixed my wife's decade old iPod video with a battery and SD card swap. Running it through Vorzuge Amp... Yummie! WM8740 + ample power = good

Any Bubble UPNP experts? I'm loving the possibilities controlling/streaming to my AK SR15, but response time is so much slower 1/2

than AK's own AK connect. Whenever I press play on a playlist/album/song, it seems to take between 5 and 10 seconds to initiate the playback, no matter what the source (Tidal/stored on AK/stored on phone).

This Astell & Kern SR15 is a wonderful pairing with the PP8. Not sure if it's just the higher OI, but the upper mids are more relaxed...

... and spatially I've not heard it sound better. Wide, deep and precise soundstage. Very happy with my purchase

(drunk) thought of this evening: SE846 with the right filter mod and low output impedance source still better than 90% of the summit-fi IEM

Thought of the evening: you can only appreciate how good your gear sounds with low background noise. Expensive portable gear = nonsense?

Not if you're frequently traveling between countries and can't take 20 kilos of gear with you, or if you live in noisy neighborhoods and need the isolation.

Portable often means listening in a hotel room instead of home. It doesn't have to mean a subway or bus

Try having an office across from a train station! Even desktop gear can't drown out the background noise.

Works well and sounds good, slanted screen is little weird at first but wasn't hard to get used to it. UI on the Astell and Kerns is nice.

What reasonable explanation is there for amps to sound different on different gain settings?
      1. Cspirou

Low gain has more feedback than high gain. Also high gain can have higher output impedance.

LOL! Yup. I think NwAvGuy tried to fix an inverting current buffer (CMOY no gain), by adding gain. And went for a two stage amplifier cuz he felt the gain fix did not cut the mustard.

@jexby mostly with sensitive IEMs and PM3. I'm a little lost with all the versions out there, but I see people commenting positively on SBAF about this line of products. Quite a few for sale on HF so I might pick one up

GO2Pro or GO2A are very good single ended, even better if you have balanced cabling. yes Red Metal is the deal. the gold metal casing is only for Special Editions which contain femto clocks. if your IEMs are uber sensitive like CA Andromeda and you can hear low level hiss, a IEMatch unit into GO2 will cure it.

I liked the M9xx/M900 a lot when I had it, as well. DAC section is better (quality) than the amp, IME.. but it's pretty nice overall. It pairs really really well with highly sensitive IEMs, also (multi-BA, custom IEMs). No noise, digital vol. control that's super granular.

Definitely exists. Found some impressively high dBTP numbers in my collection when Jriver added r128. Turn down 2dB and you'll have them handled.

The above advice is mainly for pop, rock, dance. Jazz and classical are much more likely to not exceed 0, or only do so by an inaudible .1 or .2.
