If I was going for a TT setup again I'd go for a used turntable and DIY a phonostage or just wait for Sol. With turntable setups the correlation of amount spent vs sonic performance seems more closely related than with digital gear. Might not even be worthwhile unless you approach ~$2k. I prefer the sound of tape in my budget zone.
IMHO, yes. I mean, you'll still get to enjoy the vinyl experience, physical medium, etc etc. But in terms of sound quality I have a feeling Yggdrasil would utterly dominate.
Friends don't let friends buy turntables. It's burnt! And no a $500 tt is not going to sound like a Yggdrasil. ssss, snap, tic, pop. Not even sure a Yggdrasil priced tt setup is going to sound that great.
I think that if you're playing in awesome DAC territory the only reason you should consider investing in a vinyl rig that isn't an uber-system is access to masters that aren't absolutely crap. If in it for the joy of physical media, go for it, SQ be (sorta) damned.
But I'm still trying to put all decent _digital_ system together, so feel free to ignore :P
Sounding like the Sol + EC Classic phono would be a killer TT setup at an easily digestible price. Other than the cost of obtaining the vinyl of which I have none, that combo is really making me think.
Yeah just reading some reviews and watching YouTube vids recently and got a hankering for the physical aspects of vinyl and needle drops. Brings me back to my childhood and high school years. Haven't owned one in over 20 years. But the expense of building a collection, and the need to clean records etc sounds less appealing.
