Yeah, whoever lives out by Ridgecrest may be hurting. 7.1! Still just lights swaying here. But a LOT more powerful than the last one.

Nope, not on the ceramic throne for this one. Yeah, felt bigger. I think they adjusted it to 6.9.

Many years ago i read that a 9.0+ earthquake is going to happen in California. We just don't know if it's tomorrow or 20 years from now.

Wondering if this is a warning

Seems like old times, when there was a massive earthquake every few years back in the '90s.

@schiit I've been fortunate so far, no broken gas lines, but my neighbor has had one. We are also having intermittent power outages. and my speakers are still working after being thrown down for the second time... My bottlehead crack was not so lucky!

Shit. Hope all's well on your end, guys! Secure possible flight risks/light objects, whistles and water handy in case you get trapped under, know likely safest places to be at any given moment. Earthquakes are always dead serious. Be well.

Because there's a load of damage that can be caused if a strong enough tremor dislodges something and drops it onto other things (or people). Plus fair chance of bookshelves, speakers etc pinning people down/blocking their paths if luck is sucky enough.

Was on the 14th floor at the jw marriott in dtla. Shaking started and woke me up from a nap and it didn't stop. Thought it was going to be weaker than yesterday but was wrong. Building started making creaking noises, heard the rollers in action.

Scary shit. I was in SoCal for Landers and Northridge, happy to sit this one out. I hope it's all done now.

Whoa! Scary stuff. Never experienced more than what felt like someone giving my chair a mild shake (and that was probably @insidious meme taking a crap on the other side of the world).

@Lyer25: Good hints! Never thought about whistle. Damned good idea. Are you in a quake zone?

(ps... here, people pronounce the English word like earth-quack!)

Pacific ring of fire, old friend. My place is likewise due for a big one anytime from now to God knows when so it's kinda no surprise I've got all this stuff stuck in my head. The whistle and water thing really is important, screaming yourself hoarse a few hours after the fact (if you do get trapped) might mean it's harder to catch attention of rescue later on, when they're likely to be within earshot

Google "earthquake 72 hours". Lots of information about how that relatively small window of time is crucial, getting everything in motion.

Growing up in the Midwest, at least with a tornado you knew to watch out when the conditions were right. Quakes scared the shit out of me when I was in CA. You never knew when, how long, or how big.

Pro tip: if you live in a quake zone, don't have a waterbed - it'll chase you around your room and try to eat you.
E Cal Shear Zone is weird, nobody really understands it.
@Mithrandir41 , hope your Crack is salvageable!

@Biodegraded, maybe a couple solder points. The only thing I actually had to clean up was a broken power tube.

Hopefully, yes. We are experiencing non-stop tremors. It's getting to be pretty annoying
