Thing is, my car now works fine, and only has 25000 miles. 2012 Impreza. It just boring. Do I get a new radio for it and a few other things for other stuff I want? Or save for a fun car... maybe get a fun car but keep this car for when I need practicality.
You can get a good sized (1TB+) SSD for about $100 these days which is (I hope) sufficient for your usage needs. If you're already out of space, it's probably the biggest return on value for the money spent out of the options you've listed.
I only have a 256gb ssd, and it has full, but I have a 1tb hard drive with space. Ssd is just better. But fun car is even better, but like 5k for a decent one
Nice, something as light as that would be a blast. A long time ago I took a ride in a souped up Ford Cosworth that did 0-60mph in something silly like 3.4s, around streets of London. Fuckin’ amazing, the other passenger almost wet himself.
Was doing some checking, if I do some saving, and don't spend tooo much, I should be able to have about $8000-$9000 saved by the end of this school year, then I could get a fun car for about $5000, and still have a bunch of money saved, and hopefully make more over the summer at an internship somewhere.
I'd also put forwards the idea of buying broad market ETFs/Mutual funds in a low/tax free account with money instead of spending it. Roth IRA I think for you guys. Even just 20% of what you were planning on spending can add up, especially if you start really early on in life.
@BenjaminBore That Ford Cosworth is the stuff of legend. Out of high school I had the NA low budget knock off, the Merkur XR4Ti, lol. With a simple wastegate mod, full straight pipe exhaust, and K&N air filter. I was hanging with Acura GS-R's and mildly modded 5.0 Mustang's of that era.
@JK47 Good choice, those euro hatches used to be crazy popular here with the boy racers. Wikipedia tells me that the XR4Ti actually had some success in Touring Car and was instrumental in the creation of the Cosworth variant of the Sierra, nice. Still have any photos of the old dear?
No photos, but a ton of great memories. A fellow XR4Ti owner pulled up to me one day and told me how to re-route the waste gate vacuum line to get boost at 2500rpm rather than 3500, wow, it made a tremendous difference on that 2.3L turbo pinto motor (not joking about it being a Pinto motor). It was my first rear wheel drive car...
Haven't thought too much, but:
Reasonably aquireable for around 5k
Not too expensive to maintain
Maybe easy to work on so I could start getting into that
Fun to drive
Would be cool, but not needed, to be more interesting and rare than something like a miata, but that might not be doable.
