Apologies if the joke kind of falls flat; was meant to be really sarcastic and probably done in bad taste, no pun intended. I don't mean to make fun of such a terrible situation
^I use humour as a defence mechanism too, so I get it. Have gotten into pretty interesting situations as a result, haha. Just that subtler things like that often get lost in text without nonverbals to aid communication, as I've learned, so I tend to either point jokes out (ruining them) or speak relatively bluntly online.
Have a friends in the area, one was thinking about going to the event, the other was there with his group of friends when the shooting happened (all safe). He is cracking jokes about how it was fucked up but at the same he does take it serious. Seems like comedy is a coping mechanism for what he went through.
Right after the recent SoCal earthquake, my mom called me to check if I was alright. During the call I bust out in hysterical laughter telling her I was laughing because I thought I was going to die on the 14th floor. The longer it went on with all the noises the building was making. I like to think I am generally cool, calm and collected but reacted by laughing.
According to the reports, the guy cut his way in through the back fence and started shooting randomly. One of the deaths was a 6-year-old boy, the other a 13-year-old girl, and the last unreleased. No word of motive behind shooting.
